Chapter IV Decoction Methods of Chinese Medicine Decoction Room Management Standards for Medical Institutions

Article 12: The decoction shall be made with drinking water that meets national health standards. The medicines to be decocted shall be soaked first, and the soaking time is generally not less than 30 minutes.

The amount of water used at the beginning of the decoction is generally appropriate to soak over the surface of the medicine 2-5 centimeters, flowers, herbs or longer decoction should be added to the amount of water.

Article 13 Each dose of medicine is usually decocted twice, and the juice of the two decoctions is mixed and then divided.

The decoction time should be determined according to the functionality of the formula and the efficacy of the drug. Generally speaking, drugs should be boiled and then decocted for 20-30 minutes; antidepressant, heat-clearing and aromatic drugs should not be decocted for a long time, and should be boiled and then decocted for 15-20 minutes; nourishing medicines should be boiled over a high flame first and then decocted slowly over a low flame for about 40-60 minutes. The cooking time of the second decoction should be slightly shorter than that of the first decoction.

During the process of decoction, the medicinal materials should be stirred 2-3 times. Stirring utensils should be made of ceramic, stainless steel, copper and other materials such as sticks, which should be cleaned after stirring one medicine and then stirring the next medicine.

Article 14 The amount of decoction shall be determined according to children and adults. Children are generally decocted to 100-300 milliliters per dose, and adults are generally decocted to 400-600 milliliters per dose, and each dose is generally divided into two equal portions, or as prescribed by the doctor.

Article 15 Where it is stated that there are special requirements such as first decoction, second decoction, separate decoction, molten, packet decoction, decoction of soup instead of water, etc., the Chinese herbal medicinal tablets shall be operated in accordance with the requirements or medical advice.

(1) The first decoction shall be boiled for 10-15 minutes and then put into other medicinal materials to be decocted together (having been soaked first).

(2) The next medicine should be put into the same decoction for 5-10 minutes when the first decoction is about to be decocted to a predetermined amount.

(c) The other decoction should be cut into small slices and boiled for about 2 hours, and the juice should be extracted; the other stewed medicine should be cut into thin slices, put into a covered container and stewed in cold water (usually about 10 times the amount of medicine) for 2-3 hours, and the juice should be extracted. If the original prescription of such drugs is a compound prescription, the juice of the decoction (stew) should also be mixed with the juice of the decoction of other medicines in the prescription, and then packaged. Some special drugs can be specifically determined according to the characteristics of the drug decoction (stew) time (with the right amount of water).

(4) Dissolving medicine (melting) should be placed in the liquid after other medicines have been decocted to a predetermined amount and dregs have been removed, and the decoction is made over a slight flame while stirring constantly, so that the medicine to be dissolved can be dissolved.

(e) The decoction bag should be closed and put into the bag before decocting with other medicines. The material of the decoction bag should meet the requirements of medicinal use (harmless to human body) and have the function of filtration.

(vii) For drugs with other special decoction requirements such as long decoction, brewing and soaking, they should be operated according to the corresponding specifications.

First decoction, after the next medicine, another decoction or another stew, package decoction, decoction of soup instead of water should be soaked before decoction, soaking time is generally not less than 30 minutes.

Article XVI of the medicinal materials should be fully decocted, so that there is no paste block, no white heart, no hard heart.

Decoctions should be prevented from overflowing, drying out or burning. It is forbidden to use it for medicinal purposes if it is dried up or burnt.

Article 17 The drugs for internal use and external use shall be distinguished by different markings.

Article 18 The decocted medicinal liquid shall be put into containers that have been cleaned and sterilized and meet the requirements for holding food, and pollution shall be strictly prevented.

Article 19 The use of decocting machines to decoct Chinese medicine, the decoction function of the decocting machine should be in line with the relevant requirements of this specification. The medicines shall be decocted at atmospheric pressure, and the temperature of the decoction shall not exceed 100℃. The amount of medicine decocted shall be consistent with the dosage of the formula, and the dispensed dose shall be uniform.

Article 20 The materials used to package the medicinal liquid shall comply with the national standards for pharmaceutical packaging materials.
