So this time, even during the epidemic, the friends of BMW Studio had a cloud conversation with Volkswagen engineers in Germany to discuss Volkswagen's thinking and planning for the future car.

PHEV will be the mainstream product in the next decade.

This time, the cloud conversation with Baoche Studio comes from Kai, the technical project manager of Volkswagen Electrified Power System. Dr Philip since 20 16, Kay? Dr. Philip began to be responsible for the electrified powertrain project of Volkswagen brand. Previously, Volkswagen's PHEV solution based on MQB platform was based on his work during 20 12-20 16. The work in this period just laid the foundation for the solution of PHEV, a popular brand model in the market today.

In this dialogue, the author solved some long-standing doubts and made clear the public's judgment on the future direction of the industry. The first point is about the strategic development path of future cars. Will BEV (pure electric vehicle) soon replace ICE (traditional fuel vehicle) as the mainstream product form?

In Kay? According to Dr. Philip, PHEV is indeed an excessive technology, but this transition period will last for ten years or more. Pure electric vehicles are still difficult to spread rapidly in this period. PHEV's scheme can achieve the best balance in many seemingly contradictory aspects such as battery life, environmental protection and performance. But in the long run, Kay? Dr Philip believes that the share of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles will increase, while the supply and demand of internal combustion engines will decrease.

In fact, from the two products announced during the Geneva Motor Show, we can see the public's attitude towards the future (the Geneva Motor Show was cancelled due to the epidemic, and the Volkswagen Group announced the models originally planned to be released at the auto show through webcast). The performance model Touareg R adopted PHEV scheme for the first time. Although the Porsche Cayenne PHEV version of the powertrain has been transplanted, its attitude has been very clear, and the future R series performance models will be converted into PHEV solutions with high probability. GTI series, a golf cart with wider influence, adopts a relatively conservative strategy of parallel plug-in GTE and pure fuel GTI, but both of them have been adjusted by the same power output data, which has a more obvious paving effect. It is believed that the next generation GTI will also be replaced by PHEV scheme with high probability. In the next decade, PHEV will become the mainstream of Volkswagen's product line.

High-low collocation PHEV solution

In this cloud conversation, another great achievement of the author is to understand the future public's high-low matching strategy for PHEV powertrain. At present, both MQB platform of horizontal engine and MLB platform of vertical engine will form at least two sets of high and low power combination schemes. Although the system of domestic PHEV models is relatively simple, we can already see Volkswagen's future power total layer matching strategy under the increasing environmental pressure.

In fact, the core principle of PHEV scheme for MQB and MLB platforms is a hybrid system with P2 motor position. That is, the position of the motor is located between the engine, the clutch and the gearbox. This practice is obviously different from the Japanese brand's practice of replacing the traditional gearbox with motors or planetary gears. Although the fuel efficiency of the latter is higher, the transmission efficiency of the former is higher, so it can be said that both have their own characteristics. From another point of view, Volkswagen's P2 scheme has the lowest modification cost for its TSI+DSG gold power combination (MLB scheme does not use Volkswagen's DSG gearbox, but ZF's third-generation 8AT gearbox), which can optimize its cost.

We can explain Volkswagen's PHEV scheme based on MQB and MLB respectively. On the MQB platform, Volkswagen used the 1.4T turbocharged engine on its EA21platform. This engine is specially optimized for PHEV scheme, such as integrated charge air cooler, aluminum cylinder block and crankcase, exhaust manifold in cylinder head, adjustable camshaft, integrated dual-circuit cooling system, etc. These improved designs will help this engine adapt to long-term hybrid shutdown, frequently start Deng Yunxing characteristics, and achieve higher energy-saving effect. Where's Kay Dr. Philipp also confirmed to Bao Auto Studio that the 1.5T four-cylinder engine, which will be widely replaced in the domestic pure fuel version, will not be used in the assembly used worldwide in the future.

In terms of gearbox, Volkswagen adopted the DQ400E gearbox equipped with permanent magnet synchronous motor. The motor is highly integrated with the split clutch and dual clutch gearbox, forming a very compact module structure. Characterized in that the motor is located between the engine and the gearbox and close to the gearbox. Because there is a clutch with the engine, the wheels can be driven independently; When kinetic energy is recovered, the connection with the engine can also be cut off. Because there can be a transmission ratio between the motor and the drive shaft, too much torque is not needed, which can reduce the cost and the size of the motor.

The reason why this gearbox is named DQ400E is because DQ is the prefix of Volkswagen HSI gearbox, 400 means that it can withstand the highest torque of 400n·m, and E means that this gearbox is equipped with a motor. Golf GTE released during the Geneva Motor Show adopts this assembly, and its maximum power can reach 245 horsepower. And golf that will be listed in Europe next year? The eHybrid version is a low-power version with a maximum power of 20 1 horsepower.

Of course, the biggest difference between this system and previous GTE models lies in the optimization of its battery pack. And the first generation golf launched on 20 14? Compared with GTE, the capacity of high-voltage battery has increased by about 50%. The total capacity of the battery increased from 8.8 kWh in the first generation to 13 kWh in the second generation, while the battery volume remained almost unchanged. So the shape of the battery is almost the same, and the internal capacity is increased by 50%.

High voltage battery design, with the first generation of golf? GTE's battery design applies the same principle. Volkswagen uses lithium-ion batteries, 12 batteries are integrated in one battery module, and 8 battery modules constitute the whole battery. So this battery has 96 cells, the cell capacity is 37 ampere-hours, and the whole battery capacity is 13 kWh. Correspondingly, its cruising range has also been improved, and the pure electric cruising range of Passat GTE, Golf GTE and other models is close to 60 kilometers.

The high and low power schemes of MLB platform are similar to those of MQB platform, and the same P2 scheme is also adopted. Only the gearbox was changed from DQ400E to the third generation 8AT from ZF, and the engine was also changed to 3.0T? V6 turbocharged engine and 2.0T? L4 turbocharged engine. The maximum power of the former is 339kw, and the maximum torque of the latter is 700 N m. The representative product of the former is the Touareg R announced at this auto show, and the representative product of the latter is the brand-new Touareg PHEV that will enter the China market next year.
