What are medical supplies?

Medical consumables generally include: medical gauze, elastic bandages, self-adhesive bandages, abdominal bands, compression stockings, medical sponges, alcohol pads, cotton swabs, iodine-vapor sterilized pads, cotton swabs, and so on.

Medical consumables are expendable devices and equipment used for diagnosis, treatment, health care, rehabilitation, etc., and China has not yet made a detailed domestic categorization of them.

Reform content

At 00:00 on June 15, 2019, Beijing's comprehensive reform of medical consumables linkage was officially launched and implemented. By then, nearly 3,700 medical institutions across Beijing will "march in unison" to participate in the reform. "The reform is based on the comprehensive reform of separating medicine and canceling the medical consumables markup." Lei Haichao, director of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, summarized the main elements of the reform as "five ones", namely "one lowering, one raising, one canceling, one purchasing and one improving".

One of them, "one lowering", refers to lowering the price of test items carried out by instruments and equipment; "one upgrading", refers to upgrading the price of items reflecting the value of medical staff's labor, such as traditional Chinese medicine, pathology, psychiatry, rehabilitation, surgery and so on.

"One abolition" refers to the abolition of the 5% or 10% markup policy for medical consumables in medical institutions, and charging according to the purchase price of medical consumables; "one procurement" refers to the implementation of the joint procurement of medical consumables and the banded procurement of medicines; "One improvement", refers to the improvement of medical services, strengthen the comprehensive supervision.
