Departmental Profile of Institute of Oncology

The Department of Diagnostic Imaging is a modern tumor imaging department that integrates medicine, scientific research, and teaching, and provides both diagnostic imaging and interventional therapy. The department has strong technical force, with more than 100 professional and technical personnel at all levels, including 8 chief physicians and 16 deputy chief physicians. The department has large diagnostic equipment such as multilayer spiral CT, magnetic **** vibration, color ultrasound, digital gastrointestinal machine, digital X-ray imaging system (DR), computerized X-ray imaging system (CR) and image storage and transmission system (PACS) and radiology information system (RIS), which is at the leading level of the domestic diagnostic imaging and scientific research in tumor.

The department now has 47 interventional beds and has treated more than 10,000 tumor patients. The department is responsible for the national "Ninth Five-Year Plan", "Tenth Five-Year Plan" and "Eight Sixty-Three Plan", and is the key discipline of Diagnostic Imaging and Nuclear Medicine as well as the authorization point for master's and doctor's degrees of the Peking Union Medical College of China. The Department of Internal Medicine has 203 beds. The Department of Internal Medicine has 203 beds, a daytime chemotherapy ward (11 beds) and outpatient chemotherapy facilities. The main task of the department is to use anti-cancer drugs to treat all kinds of solid tumors, including lung cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal tract cancer, malignant lymphoma and genitourinary system tumors. The department is technically strong and has many medical oncologists represented by Prof. Sun Yan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, including 13 chief physicians and 12 deputy chief physicians. More than 500 inpatients and more than 200 patients are treated in the daytime chemotherapy ward and outpatient clinic every month. The department has undertaken a number of national scientific research projects at all levels and obtained a number of scientific research achievements. The National Clinical Research Center for New Antitumor Drugs (GCP) was established in 1996 and undertakes a large number of clinical studies on antitumor drugs every year.

The department is a national key discipline of oncology and an authorized site for master's degree and doctoral degree of the Peking Union Medical College of China, which accepts many medical oncologists from all over the country for further training every year and organizes national training courses of medical oncology. 1997, as the main initiator, a number of renowned oncologists in the department took part in the establishment of the Clinical Oncology Collaboration Center of the Chinese Anti-cancer Society (CSCO), which has become a center with more than 4,600 members. CSCO has become the third largest clinical oncology academic organization in the world with more than 4600 members. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences was founded in 1958. Over the years, all the TCM physicians*** have devoted themselves to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of tumors, and provided high-quality medical services for the majority of tumor patients.

The Cancer Hospital is a specialized hospital for tumors, which not only has a wide range of patients, but also has many kinds of diseases. In the exploration of years of clinical practice, the physicians have accumulated rich experience in cancer treatment. They are not only able to prescribe according to the traditional Chinese medicine theory on the basis of identification of evidence and treatment, but also can rely on modern advanced diagnostic and treatment technology to serve the majority of tumor patients.

The department has 5 physicians: 2 associate physicians and 3 attending physicians. Among them, 2 have bachelor's degree and 3 have doctor's degree. The monthly outpatient capacity of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine is about 400, and about 60% of them are foreign patients. It also undertakes Chinese medicine consultation for all wards of the hospital. Patient satisfaction surveys are all above 95%, and there are no medical disputes or medical accidents. The construction of the ward is under planning. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine attaches great importance to clinical scientific research, actively organizes the declaration of various topics, and has published more than 20 academic papers in the core journals of Chinese and Western medicine*** and participated in the preparation of several monographs on tumor treatment. The department has conducted research on Chinese medicine prevention and treatment of lung cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, renal cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, lymphoma, prostate cancer, liver cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and other diseases, and has achieved better therapeutic effect. The department not only undertakes the medical task of patients, but also undertakes the teaching and the research work of many kinds of new drug clinical trials.

The department constantly strengthens the education of medical ethics, resolutely resist commercial bribery, and strictly prohibit the acceptance of red packets. The department will continue to take the combination of traditional Chinese and western medicine as the main direction of the construction and development of the discipline, inherit and carry forward the traditional medicine, and at the same time, try to learn the modern medicine, and constantly improve the medical level; actively cultivate talents, strengthen the external exchanges, and strive to make the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Cancer Hospital become a national center of the combination of traditional Chinese and western medicine in the treatment of tumors.

The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine has advantages in the treatment of tumors:

It is good at the treatment of various malignant tumors (lung cancer, gastric cancer, intestinal cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer, etc.), especially for the patients with middle- and late-stage tumors, which can significantly alleviate the symptoms, and the efficacy of the treatment is obvious, and the quality of the survival is greatly improved.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine can consolidate the therapeutic effect, prevent tumor recurrence and metastasis or keep the tumor body stable in the comprehensive treatment of tumors, which effectively improves the quality of life and long survival period.
