What is the contribution of this academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who has been praised and idolized by Ren Zhengfei?

In 1975, the University of Science and Technology of China opened a workshop, the establishment of this workshop is to promote the development of China's aero-engine research technology, to ensure that it can walk in the front of the world. At the beginning of the workshop, a keynote speaker was invited, and when he stepped onto the stage, he made a strong statement that "China will definitely be able to have the most advanced aero-engine in the world." These words inspired countless students sitting on the stage, and his words were eventually realized.

The speaker was called Wu Zhonghua, a scientist whose name some people don't know, and if Huawei boss Ren Zhengfei hadn't mentioned him many times, perhaps most people today wouldn't have heard of the name. Ren Zhengfei as a leading domestic entrepreneur, can be seen as his idol must not be simple, Wu Zhonghua is Ren Zhengfei's most optimistic about a scientist, and mentioned many times in the speech. So what exactly is the contribution of this academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, able to make Ren Zhengfei praised again and again?

Determined to save the country, and eventually enrolled in Tsinghua University

Wu Zhonghua was born in 1917, his parents have a high level of cultural level, so Wu Zhonghua received a good education since childhood. Because of his excellent grades, Wu Zhonghua was admitted to Tsinghua University when he graduated from high school. Because of his dream of saving the country through industry, Wu Zhonghua chose to study engineering. During his time at the university, Wu not only achieved academic success, but also met his lifelong companion, Li Minhua.

In 1940, Wu Zhonghua successfully graduated, and he chose to stay on at the university to teach. Four years later, Wu and his wife left the country together and traveled to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for further study. While at MIT, Wu majored in engineering thermophysics, with a focus on aircraft engines. His wife, Li Minhua, studied solid mechanics, with a focus on the external structure of airplanes.

After years of hard work, Wu and his wife finally graduated with their doctorates. After graduating from the doctoral program, on the recommendation of his supervisor, Wu Zhonghua entered a research center in the United States to engage in scientific research. The research center had the most abundant aeronautical data and the most advanced equipment at that time, which provided a series of convenient conditions for Wu Zhonghua's research work.

With Wu Zhonghua's continuous efforts, he was able to move closer and closer to the peak of engine aerodynamic thermodynamic theory. In fact, from the time the couple first entered the research center, the local immigration office sent them application materials, inviting them to join the U.S. citizenship. Although the conditions offered by the INS were very attractive, neither of the couple was moved, because in their minds their nationality could only be Chinese, and one day they would still have to serve China.

Moving back to China to promote domestic research

In addition to their dedication to scientific research, Mr. and Mrs. Wu Zhonghua were also very concerned about politics, and after the founding of the new China in 1949, the couple had the idea of returning to China. But the new China has just been established, in the end what is the scene in the country, the couple did not have the bottom of their hearts. Then, because of the Korean War, our delegation came to New York to participate in the debate, and after learning about this event, Mr. and Mrs. Wu Zhonghua were very excited, and they were looking forward to the arrival of the delegation.

At the debate, our delegation pointed out the slander of the U.S. against China, and condemned the occupation of our country's territory, and claimed that we would firmly defend our territorial integrity. Mr. and Mrs. Wu Zhonghua sat on the stage and were touched by the delegation's speech, and the two of them immediately had the idea of returning to China, and this wish became stronger and stronger.

They resigned from their lucrative jobs in order to return to China. At that time, the U.S. Immigration Department had regulations that strictly prohibited Chinese students in science and engineering from returning to China, and Wu Zhonghua and his wife were very distressed by this. At the suggestion of a friend, Wu and his wife left the U.S. in the name of touring Europe with their two children. They traveled through Britain, Switzerland, the Netherlands and other places, and eventually returned to China after traveling halfway around the world with the help of the Chinese Embassy.

After returning to China, Wu was invited to become a professor at the Department of Power Engineering at Tsinghua University, and his wife joined the Institute of Mechanics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. During his tenure at Tsinghua University, Wu Zhonghua founded the gas turbine program, and he personally served as the director of the teaching and research group, in charge of all the teaching arrangements for this program. Because of their remarkable scientific achievements, the couple was both awarded the National Science Prize and received an audience with Premier Zhou.

Then Premier Zhou told them that they were still young and could do more for the country. The two of them took Premier Zhou's words to heart and did their best to promote the development of science in their country.

Elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Wu devoted himself to education and scientific research

Two years after his return to China, Wu was elected as an academician of the CAS, an appointment that was recognized by many of his colleagues. After the establishment of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Wu was invited to participate in the discussion of the school's enrollment and curriculum. At a meeting with the new students, Wu said that the purpose of the school is to train research engineers, as the name implies, to train people who are not only able to take on the work of engineers, but also have the ability to conduct research, so as to promote the development of practice through theory.

Then Wu came to teach at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), where he took the initiative to develop the teaching program for the Department of Physics and Thermal Engineering. Wu often discussed the curriculum with the department's faculty and students, and actively listened to their suggestions. In addition, Wu Zhonghua was also involved in the compilation of teaching materials and wrote many course handouts and reference books. Despite his multiple roles, Mr. Wu continues to work as a graduation advisor for undergraduates, and has worked hard to promote young faculty in the department.

Wu once said that USTC is strict in enrollment, so the students on campus have excellent overall qualities and a good foundation for learning, so they need to be treated strictly according to MIT's teaching standards in the process of teaching. After returning from the United States, Wu Zhonghua did not dare to stop for a moment, and strive to promote the improvement of China's scientific research level. he was diagnosed with cancer at the end of 1987, and eventually died in 1992, until his death he did not stop working.

Summary

Being able to be mentioned by the entrepreneur Ren Zhengfei all the time is by no means idle, Wu Zhonghua can be called able to lift up the nation's great cause of the wise man, his contribution to the country for the eyes of the **** to see. Wu Zhonghua said clearly before his life, he returned to China is to work, no matter how difficult the conditions, he must develop the aero-engine, and finally through its unremitting efforts, he finally realized this goal.
