Raising meat first raises roots, which can be said to be the most frequently heard sentence by every meat lover. However, how to raise roots is rarely mentioned, so "raising roots" often becomes an empty rhetoric of "although I don't understand it, I feel very powerful". Xiao Jing believes that it is necessary to understand the various root forms of meat before raising roots. Although the roots are generally buried in the pot soil, it is very helpful to sum up the right and wrong points of early maintenance combined with the state of the roots when the meat is abnormal or needs to be turned over. Below, Xiao Exquisite will share the various states of the root system with you in the form of pictures.

1, healthy roots

Let's talk about healthy roots first. Healthy and developed fleshy roots generally cover all corners of the flowerpot, forming a "net" to firmly "net" the pot soil. White roots indicate that when the roots are vigorous, the fleshy roots of this big white root have strong resistance, absorb water quickly, and can resist all kinds of water control and abuse. In fact, there is still room for further growth of the roots in the above picture, but the twelve big white roots in the following picture are a little full, so it is better to change to a big pot.

2. The root system grows normally

Normal growth of fleshy roots and capillary roots are also healthy white roots. They are trying to dig deep into the net basin soil. Excessive water control is not appropriate at this time. The best way to water is to soak the basin, and there is no need to soak the soil on the surface of the basin. As long as there is water at the bottom of the basin soil, they will drill down.

3. Water-deficient roots

For roots with long control time, white capillary roots will gradually dry up from the tip inward. If the water is controlled too much, the taproot will start to dry up, which is somewhat dangerous. The capillary roots that Nana can see in the above picture are all dry, and it is obvious that the leaves at the bottom are also wrinkled badly, which is a manifestation of water shortage and consumption of leaves. Further removal of the soil will reveal that the capillary roots are basically dry, as shown in the following figure. At this time, if the roots are not trimmed, these dry capillary roots will hinder the occurrence of new roots, and even watering will not play much role.

4. Aging root system

The roots of this picture are all flowerpots, and there is no room for new roots. After three years or more growth, most of the roots have aged to brown, and even there are root scale insects. Only the taproot is healthy, but its ability to absorb nutrients is greatly reduced. Such roots must be repaired and changed.

5. Water has many roots.

If succulents are not watered in moderation, they will not breathe well and their roots will rot. After rotten roots, they can't absorb nutrients, and the leaves will become dry and lifeless. Many times, the meat will grow gas roots to save itself, but more often it doesn't grow gas roots. Most people think that meat is short of water when they see dead leaves, so watering more water forms a vicious circle, which leads to the black rot of the meat below and can only be beheaded.

PS: Here, by the way, explain the external difference between water shortage and rotten roots: leaves are wrinkled and soft, while water-deficient meat is dry before watering, and leaves become full immediately after watering; However, if the basin soil has been wet, but the leaves are getting wrinkled, it is likely that the roots are rotten. In addition, succulents with rotten roots have little grip on the soil and will loosen when touched.

Step 6 water the roots with "half-baked water"

What is "half-cooked water"? That is, the water can't be poured through, resulting in the surface of the basin soil being wet and the depth being dry. As we all know, the root system has hydrotropism, where there is water, it grows, and the water on the surface of the basin soil naturally grows. The picture above shows a tree full of moonlight. Only the surface of the pot is wet and cannot be directly rooted. In addition, there is another situation that the twelve volumes are stuffy for too long, which leads to the deep soil in the basin being dry and the small surface environment still being wet, which will also cause the wonderful situation that the roots are turned up as shown in the following figure, so the water must be poured thoroughly. If the amount of meat is small, it is recommended to soak in a basin.

PS: Let's talk about the advantages and disadvantages of soaking pots with succulents: The advantage is that you don't have to worry about not pouring them thoroughly, even if there is a hardened pot soil, it will be soaked thoroughly under the action of soaking pots; There are two disadvantages. First, a big family with hundreds of pots can be exhausted. Second, if there are germs or eggs in the pot soil, it is likely to be transmitted to other meat through the pot.

Well, the understanding of the root system state is here. After all, roots are buried in the soil, and you can't see them every day. This article is mainly for your reference. By the way, you can know what to do when you turn over the pot, and what needs to be improved in combination with your own maintenance methods. Due to the lack of level, there are inevitably mistakes and omissions in the article. Please criticize and correct me in the comments section!
