Causes of foot odor
There are several reasons for smelly feet.
1. Humid environment: The soles of the feet are sweaty. The sole of the foot has more than 600 sweat glands per square centimeter, 2 ~ 4 times more than other parts of the body. There are about 250,000 sweat glands in total, which can secrete nearly 500 ml of sweat every day. Besides water and salt, sweat also contains lactic acid and urea. When the water content is high, it is very beneficial to the reproduction of bacteria and mold.
2. Hot and closed space: When the shoes are tightly worn and the ventilation is not good, the ph value of the skin surface will change from the original ph4.4 to around ph7, and carbon dioxide gas will be released, which is the most suitable environment for some bacteria to grow on the soles of the feet.
3. Bacterial reproduction: due to the superposition of one or two factors, it can cause the growth of bacteria in the skin of feet. These bacteria can decompose urea and lactic acid in skin keratin and foot sweat, and form various metabolites containing odor, such as
(1) Brevibacterium can decompose keratin components to form methyl mercaptan. The smell of methionine is similar to that of cheese fermentation.
(2) The fat components in sebum are decomposed by Staphylococcus aureus, which will form short-chain fatty acids.
(3) Urea in sweat is decomposed into ammonia by bacteria.
These smells are mixed together and tightly locked in airtight socks, which will form unpleasant foot odor.
4. Propagation of mold: A hot and humid environment will make mold grow and form tinea pedis, commonly known as beriberi. The symptoms of beriberi are very diverse. Not all beriberi smells. The most common type of athlete's foot that produces foot odor is athlete's foot with wet skin and rotten skin between toe tendons, which is the most serious. 5. Too thick old cutin: Too thick old cutin, under the infiltration of sweat, will become the nutrient source needed by bacteria and mold, promote the reproduction of bacteria and mold, and worsen the formation of foot odor.
