How to communicate effectively between nurses and patients

Nurse-patient communication refers to a kind of special interpersonal communication formed by sympathetic interaction between nurses and patients under specific circumstances. Since the development of high-quality nursing service in our department, all nursing staff have established the service concept of "people-oriented, all patient-centered", enhanced the awareness of active service, strengthened communication with patients, and provided nurse-patient communication skills, which is necessary for modern nursing.

1 the importance of nurse-patient communication

Good nurse-patient communication is not only conducive to the normal development of clinical nursing work, improving the quality of nursing work, promoting patients' rehabilitation, and reducing the occurrence of medical disputes caused by nursing errors and accidents, but also can truly reflect the "people-oriented, patient-centered" holistic nursing and meet the needs of patients. Good nurse-patient communication skills can increase patients' trust in nursing work and hospitals. Only by grasping the opportunity of communication with patients and choosing different communication methods to adapt to different patients can the effect of nurse-patient communication be improved and the knowledge of curing diseases be obtained. It is of great significance for patients to master the knowledge of related diseases and understand the significance of functional exercise, so as to better cooperate with treatment and nursing and enhance the curative effect of treatment.

2 methods and skills of nurse-patient communication

2. 1 Language communication-a bridge between nurses and patients

Language is a bridge of communication. When the patient arrives at the hospital, the nurse has the most and closest contact. From the moment the nurse receives the consultation, the nurse's words and deeds will affect the patient's psychology and mood. If the nurse's language is kind, cordial and compassionate, communication and guidance can make patients feel happy and make them actively cooperate with the treatment. On the other hand, due to improper language and lack of communication, it may aggravate the patient's condition and is not conducive to the recovery of the disease. In language communication, the most important thing is language communication skills and communication methods, which requires nurses to focus all their attention on each other and make patients feel kind and concerned. Through patient and meticulous listening, nurses can fully understand the patients' physiological and psychological state, encourage patients to ask questions, help patients solve some difficulties within their power, help patients build confidence in overcoming diseases, and enable patients to actively cooperate with treatment, thus achieving satisfactory results.

2.2 Respect the basis of nurse-patient communication

Respect for patients and their families is the basis of communication [1]. Only by respecting patients' rights and human rights, safeguarding patients' rights and interests and talking sincerely can effective nursing be implemented. There are many elderly patients in orthopedics, hoping to get respect and attention from others, and they are highly dependent. Nurses can give patients a proper title at work, which can make patients feel happy and satisfy their self-esteem. On the basis of respecting patients, nurses should conscientiously do every nursing operation to make every operation accurate. Through skilled operation techniques, they gain the trust of patients, reassure patients and are willing to communicate with nurses to enhance mutual understanding.

2.3 Smile service-the language of nurse-patient communication

Smile is a special language and the primary factor to solve the strange tension in interpersonal communication. When the patient is worried, the nurse's leisurely smiling face can make the patient feel calm and safe, so that the patient can get comfort and encouragement from it, and establish confidence in life, actively cooperate with treatment and help him recover [2]. In practical nursing work, nurses should not only be optimistic and cheerful, but also have solid basic skills to influence patients with stable emotions. For example, in the process of daily nursing, when nurses prepare for amputation for diabetic patients, they should explain to them the necessity of amputation, and how to do safety protection after operation to ensure their safety, so that patients can be comforted in communication, eliminate their fears and reduce their psychological burden. At the same time, they feel that what you do for them has scientific basis, which is conducive to the recovery of the disease, thus continuously improving their trust in nurses.

2.4 Seize the communication opportunity to fully understand the patient's psychological state.

Nurses have to do a lot of nursing operations every day, and collect extensive and detailed information through chatting during the operation. For example, give a patient an infusion, and you can ask the patient: How do you feel today? How's the diet? Whether there is swelling and pain in limbs. ; Encourage patients to express their feelings, and give health education, dietary guidance, functional exercise and related knowledge education according to patients' different feelings. At the same time, when talking with patients, we should fully understand their psychology. In orthopedic wards, most of them are bedridden patients. When educating such patients, it was found that all patients drank less water. Through the conversation, we found that most patients think that drinking too much water is inconvenient to urinate, and even brings a lot of inconvenience to their families or others, especially the elderly. Grasping this psychological situation, nurses actively explain the necessity and importance of drinking water to patients and their families, and inform patients that this is also an important measure to prevent urinary system infection. In this way, patients and their relatives understand each other. On this premise, their families can also help us urge patients to actively cooperate with our treatment and effectively reduce the occurrence of complications.

2.5 To communicate with patients of different cultural levels, we should seize different opportunities.

Our patients come from all directions, with different ages and educational levels, which requires every nurse to understand the different needs of patients when communicating with them, so as to adopt different effective communication ways or methods to communicate with patients. In clinical nursing, we often meet many patients with the same disease. They often read books and materials related to their diseases, hoping to know something about themselves. In this case, our nurses are required to have higher professional knowledge and give accurate answers to patients' questions, so that patients can have a more comprehensive understanding of their own diseases and increase their confidence in healing; At the same time, for patients with low education, in the process of communicating with them, we should patiently explain some common medical knowledge that patients can accept, talk with them in plain language, and let them master general health knowledge and cooperate with treatment. No matter what level of patients ask questions or don't understand, they should seek truth from facts, know how much and answer how much. If they don't know, they should look for relevant information before answering. Don't talk nonsense, so that patients will lose trust in you, and let patients achieve satisfactory results through different communication methods.

2.6 communicate with discharged patients and give discharge guidance.

Get a good result through communication. It is still necessary to communicate with discharged patients, which is to get a good result in the whole hospitalization process. For example, according to different fracture types and degrees, make corresponding discharge guidance, inform patients of various precautions after discharge, guide them to carry out functional exercise, and visit them regularly. Through follow-up, we can establish stable, solid and long-term contact with patients, expand the relationship with patients, and extend medical care services from hospitals to society.

3 abstract

Good nurse-patient communication can enable nurses to fully understand the condition in time, master their psychological trends and needs, effectively avoid conflicts between nurses and patients, and enable patients to complete treatment in a relaxed and harmonious medical environment, thus achieving the purpose of cure.
