What are the characteristics of health insurance?

Health insurance, like accident insurance, belongs to short-term insurance, and they are similar in terms of insurance period, insurance accidents and insurance premium calculation. Some countries classify commercial insurance into three categories: property insurance, life insurance and third-field insurance, among which the third-field insurance is health insurance and accident insurance. It can be seen that these two kinds of insurance are very different from life insurance. However, there are some differences between health insurance and accident insurance, mainly in the following aspects: (1) Different insurance responsibilities. Accidental injury insurance emphasizes the externality of accidents, while health insurance regards the treatment caused by internal diseases as insurance accidents; The difference between the two is obvious in accidental injuries. For those hospitalized due to accidental injury, health insurance will pay medical insurance benefits, while accidental injury insurance will only pay disability insurance benefits when medical treatment is terminated and disability is determined. Disability and death caused by illness are the insurance liability of health insurance, while the insurance liability of accidental injury insurance is disability and death caused by accidental injury. (2) The nature of payment is different. Accident insurance is mostly fixed payment, which has the nature of payment, that is, economic assistance. The payment of health insurance is mostly compensatory, and there are three forms: fixed payment-similar to life insurance and accidental injury insurance; Actual compensation-paid according to actual medical expenses, although there is a maximum limit; Prepaid services-medical expenses are paid directly by the insurance company. Due to the compensation of insurance claims, health insurance, like property insurance, has the problems of double insurance and subrogation. If the insured has insured the health insurance of several insurance companies, in the event of an insurance accident, there may be a situation that the medical payment insurance premium is higher than the actual medical expenses, which is not allowed. If the insured accident is caused by a third party, the insurer may, after paying the insurance premium, require the insured to transfer the right to recover from the third party to the insurer, or make up the difference between the compensation and the insurance premium after the third party compensates. Life insurance and accident insurance do not have the above problems.
