The golden hamster (scientific name: Mesocricetusauratus) is also known as the Syrian hamster. Taxonomically, it is a medium-sized hamster of the genus Hamster in China. Like many hamsters, the golden hamster has a blunt nose and mouth, relatively small eyes, large ears and a short tail, about 1.5 cm. The hair is golden yellow, the center of the back is black, and black stripes can be seen under the ears. Some people may have a black part on their forehead, and a black stripe extends from the cheek pouch to the neck on both sides of their faces. Terrestrial nocturnal omnivores in temperate regions feed on crops and insects and mainly exist in cultivated land of annual crops. The average life expectancy in the field is 1~2 years, and that in captivity is 2~4 years.
