Her monographs, The Chinese Red Army is Marching Forward, The Destiny of China People, China is Counterattacking, and China's Warsong, have publicized China's revolutionary struggle to the world and become immortal works. She personally cared for the wounded, organized medical activities, and awakened people with conscience with actions. She visited most parts of North China and Central China, and enthusiastically gathered more international friends to contribute to China's anti-Japanese war.
Smedley is a friend of China people. In the last 20 years of her life, she devoted all her energy to the revolutionary struggle of China people.
1950 On May 6th, Smedley died in London at the age of 58. On May 6th of the following year, a memorial service and a grand funeral were held for her in Beijing. Her ashes are placed among the pines and cypresses in China Martyrs Cemetery in Babaoshan. A marble tombstone is inscribed with Zhu De's inscription: "The Tomb of Ms. Smedley, a friend of the people of China and an American revolutionary writer".
