Is styrofoam poisonous?
As a tool and toy to relieve stress, foam is deeply loved by children and even adults. In fact, as an industrial vulcanized product, polystyrene foam is slightly toxic. Polystyrene foam is less toxic as a toy, because ethanol is a kind of medicinal alcohol, which is added to polystyrene foam made into toys. Before leaving the factory, it needs to be tested by a designated laboratory and can be sold only after reaching the non-toxic standard. This product has a small smell and no obvious toxicity in contact with skin. However, in order to reduce the cost, some informal manufacturers directly add paint solvents, such as banana oil, benzene solvent or ethyl acetate. After being washed or diluted, expanded polystyrene is easy to produce certain corrosiveness when foaming, so it has a strong pungent smell and is harmful to people's health. Toys whose foams are not up to the edible level may be toxic if eaten, and poisoning symptoms may appear if eaten by mistake. When parents use it as a toy, they must be careful to avoid children eating it by mistake.
