Drug health

The baby's body structure is not yet mature, and adding one milliliter of liquid medicine will have a great effect on the baby. How should I take medicine? How to keep the potion? Medication for children is a necessary health knowledge for parents.

Children's medication is not a miniature version of adults. Li Meishan, a pharmacist in the pharmacy department of Heping Maternal and Child Hospital of Taipei United Hospital, pointed out that children's medication is evaluated according to their weight and age. The child weighs only 10 kilograms, and more than one milliliter of liquid medicine will have a great effect on the baby. Parents can't increase or decrease medication at will.

Therefore, pediatricians call on parents to establish a correct concept and attitude towards children's drug use, and provide suggestions from four aspects: drug form, preservation, preparation and use.

In recent years, medical institutions advocate "special preparations for children", that is, syrup, chewable tablets, aqueous solution and powder produced by professional pharmaceutical factories, which not only increases the convenience for parents to take medicine, but also improves the safety of taking medicine and avoids the risk of pollution before and after grinding.

When parents take their baby to see a doctor, they can take the initiative to ask the doctor to prescribe a special preparation for their child and ask the doctor about the contents of the medicine. If the baby is only infected with the virus, don't use antibiotics to avoid overdose.

Regarding the preservation of drugs, Zhan Weizi, president of Bell United Clinic, suggested that parents can leave unused potions for rainy days.

In general, the liquid medicine should be placed between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius to avoid direct sunlight. Because of the high sugar content of children's liquid medicine, it will not deteriorate if it is not put in the refrigerator, but will thicken if it is put in the refrigerator. Drugs or plugs containing antibiotics should be kept in the refrigerator.

As for how long the potion can be preserved, the unopened potion depends on the preservation period, and the unopened potion is limited to three months. When parents open the potion, it is best to write the date of the day on the potion jar. It will be eliminated after more than three months to avoid deterioration.

If the baby has an acute fever or cough, it is necessary to use the spare liquid medicine at home. Parents can refer to the dosage recommended by the last doctor. Although they may eat less, they should never eat more.
