People's Republic of China (PRC) National Standard, referred to as GB for short, is a national standard code including language coding system issued by the National Standardization Management Committee, a member organization representing People's Republic of China (PRC) in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). For standards published before 1994, the year is represented by two digits. The standard published from 1995 and the year after the standard number were changed to four numbers.
The national standard is a national unified technical requirement. The service life of general national standards is five years. After that, the national standards will be revised or re-formulated. In addition, with the development of society, the country needs to formulate new standards to meet the needs of people's production and life. Therefore, the standard is dynamic information. National standards are divided into mandatory national standards and recommended national standards. Mandatory national standards are standards related to human health, personal and property safety, and are national standards enforced by laws and administrative regulations. Recommended national standards refer to national standards adopted by economic means or market regulation in production, exchange and use. However, once the quasi-recommendatory national standard is accepted and adopted, or the parties agree to be included in the economic contract, it becomes the technical basis that all parties must abide by and is legally binding.
The difference between national standards and industry standards can be distinguished from three aspects: attributes, contents and applicable objects, namely:

Article 1 This Law is formulated in order to strengthen standardization, improve the quality of products and services, promote scientific and technological progress, safeguard personal health and the safety of life and property, safeguard national security and ecological environment security, and improve the level of economic and social development.
Article 2 Standards (including standard samples) mentioned in this Law refer to the technical requirements that need to be unified in agriculture, industry, service industry and social undertakings.
Standards include national standards, industry standards, local standards, group standards and enterprise standards. National standards are divided into mandatory standards and recommended standards, while industry standards and local standards are recommended standards.
Mandatory standards must be implemented. The state encourages the adoption of recommended standards.
