Brazilian red-eared turtle is an aquatic turtle, which likes quietness and noisy, warm and cold, active in nature and has strong adaptability to the environment. For example, it is more tolerant to temperature changes than domestic turtles such as tortoise and mauremys mutica. The suitable water temperature for growth is 20~32℃, and the optimum water temperature for growth is 25~30℃. When the temperature is lower than 20℃, the food intake decreases and the activity is inactive. Hibernation begins when the temperature is lower than 16℃, and completely hibernates when the temperature is lower than 12℃.
Brazilian red-eared turtle is an omnivorous turtle with hunger tolerance. Meat is mainly eaten in artificial culture, especially in the larval and juvenile fish stage, mainly the lean meat of shrimps and animals in eat small fish. Adult stage can also eat plant feed and worker ant compound feed. In the wild, adult turtles' diets include herbs such as algae and duckweed floating in the water, crustaceans such as pythons, mussels, small fish and shrimps, and mollusks such as snails.
