Canine C-reactive protein

C- reactive protein (CRP) is a kind of protein synthesized by liver cells during inflammatory reaction. The concentration of CRP in blood can indicate whether there is inflammatory reaction. When the immune system reacts to infection or injury, CRP usually rises significantly, so it is used as a biomarker of inflammation and therapeutic response. In dogs, the increase of CRP level is also related to many diseases, such as infection, tumor, trauma and inflammatory diseases. In clinical practice, detecting the level of C-reactive protein in dogs can help doctors determine the diagnosis and treatment plan, and it is also of great significance for prognosis evaluation. It should be noted that the increase of CRP does not necessarily mean that dogs have diseases, and sometimes it may be a normal physiological process. Therefore, it is not enough to determine the existence of the disease only by CRP measurement, but also to comprehensively analyze the medical history, clinical manifestations and other examination results.
