In the movie Good Will Hunting, do you think the ending is right or wrong? Why?

The thing is: I think many people think this is an excellent film, but the ending is quite old-fashioned.

Moreover, in all fairness, I think that if this film was created and produced in the present era, perhaps Will would think that his brief love affair with skyler was great, but it was also a part of the past, and Will finally decided to go beyond it.

Just because skyler's past doesn't mean Will. Skylar represents Will's future, or at least the possibility of Will's future.

I think what this movie may miss is that it is not just a story of redemption and self-discovery; More importantly, this is also a love story. Just not a typical love story.

This is a love story about the recovery of the abused.

Because will never thought anyone would love him. Anyone. He felt so hurt that he was worthless. That's why he rejected the first romantic happiness he and Skylar experienced so strongly.

This is an abuse of principle; Specifically, it is the response of human soul to abuse in order to survive.

You see, there is such an ultimate truth that most people naturally realize it, but they may never consciously look at it. This is our ultimate goal. The reason why everyone is put on this earth is to reproduce and pass on a part of himself to the next generation.

This is to figure out how to live, how to meet life partners, how to raise children, and how to teach those children to do the same thing. This is our first and last goal in life. This is a very fulfilling thing, having a good relationship, supporting the family and watching your children become productive and independent members of society.

However, it takes time to establish this relationship, take root, have children … all these things. In order to achieve this ultimate goal, send your children into this world, let them live, and pass on what they have learned to their children, then you must lay a good foundation early in your life so that the fruits of these labors can be realized.

This goal is a fact that is usually self-evident. It is so meaningful that it is almost outdated and even discussed-if you are a "normal person", there is no psychological or physical trauma caused by frequent beatings or sexual abuse.

However, for scarred humans, this is not what we have learned. Abused people know that they are different from others. They think they are "not allowed" to have a healthy relationship. Abused people feel unworthy. This is the root of self-destruction.

If we think we don't deserve real satisfaction, if we don't plan to have children anyway, if there is no reason to establish appropriate standards of behavior for ourselves, if we are sure that we can't have that kind of happiness, then ...

We find ourselves living in instant satisfaction; We live for meaningless happiness, alcohol, drugs and sex. Violence and imprisonment are just facts of life for some of us, such as Will, because we don't care what happens to us.

Because if we only worry about today, if we are only responsible for ourselves, then we don't have to worry at all. We gave ourselves a chance to destroy ourselves.

Will has been there almost all his life. When he met Sean, he experienced self-discovery and rebirth.

So, is the ending of the story wrong? Should Will finally stand in front of the university classroom and guide the students? Should he finally overlook the world he just conquered at the top of the mountain?

Maybe.

However, I think pursuing Skylar is the recognition of that "ultimate goal", and he will finally realize that he can have it-he "deserves" it.

Skylar represents a bright new future, and he will not give up.
