In the new round of institutional reform in the State Council, the responsibilities of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the Office of the Leading Group for Deepening the Reform of Medical and Health System in the State Council and the Office of the National Working Committee on Ageing, the responsibilities of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in fulfilling the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, and the responsibilities of occupational safety and health supervision and management of the State Administration of Work Safety were integrated into the National Health and Wellness Committee.
The main duties of the National Health and Wellness Committee are to formulate national health policies, coordinate and promote the deepening of the reform of the medical and health system, organize the formulation of the national basic drug system, supervise and manage public health, medical services and health emergencies, be responsible for family planning management and services, and formulate policies and measures to deal with the aging population and the combination of medical care and nursing.
