Sears Encyclopedia of Parenting (USA); Encyclopedia of Parenting (Japan); Zheng Yuqiao parenting classics (China); Spock parenting classics (USA)
I bought all these four books. The following are my experiences and suggestions after reading it:
Of the four books, I recommend Sears Parenting Encyclopedia. Sears is a famous pediatrician in America. They have raised eight children and have 40 years of pediatric experience. I read their pregnancy books as early as when I was pregnant, and I liked them very much at that time. I think the biggest feature of this book is rigor and science. It not only analyzes the characteristics and precautions of each stage of pregnancy physically, but also helps pregnant women overcome psychological depression and anxiety psychologically. There is also a list of possible diseases during pregnancy, especially this one has really solved my big problem. When I was 7 months pregnant, I had a high fever in the middle of the night. I went to the emergency departments of several hospitals and didn't prescribe medicine for pregnant women. Fortunately, I remember that my obstetrician told me what medicine to take to reduce my fever, otherwise I really don't know what it will burn, and the medicine recommended by the doctor is the green light medicine that pregnant women can take in Sears' book. When I was pregnant, I also bought a pregnancy book written by Dr. Sheikh. The contents in it are too general, and there is no mention of unexpected events such as pregnant women's illness, which also makes me feel the gap between Chinese and western disciplines in obstetrics and gynecology.
After giving birth, I chose Sears' parenting book. This book is like a thick dictionary. When I don't understand something, I can always find the answer. Very detailed, the author is really experienced and constantly summing up. I remember that when the child is 40 days to 2 months old, abdominal distension and crying may be caused by intestinal spasm. I looked up a lot of information on the internet, and it's not very clear. Later, I read Sears' book and wrote a long article on this issue, from the cause to how to treat it, including the kinds of food that mothers should avoid. The book says that intestinal spasm is a necessary process for baby's development. There is no specific medicine, only relief measures can be taken, which will be gradually relieved after reaching the peak in 6-8 weeks until 3. The book also lists breastfeeding, children's growth and skills development at all stages. All the problems encountered in parenting can basically be found in the book.
Secondly, I recommend Matsuda Daoxiong's Parenting Encyclopedia. This book is as detailed as a dictionary, even more detailed than Sears. I think it is enough to buy these two books, one in the west and the other in the east.
Zheng Yuqiao's parenting classics are very famous. I don't think I can compete with Silsby at the academic level except for the photos of children on better paper. The author gives general answers to many questions, without Sears' rigorous and rich experience, which also reflects the gap between China and the West in infant rearing, and needs continuous exploration and progress.
Spock parenting classics are mainly written for children aged 0- 18. I think it's different from Sears' book. It's for children under 2 years old. It can be said that these two books are complementary and can be bought.
In addition, I recommend you to search for a lot of parenting education content that combines Chinese and western in "Children's Combination". And there are many overseas and domestic mothers to communicate with.
