"Health Cloud" refers to providing hospital management and resident health record management application services for all hospitals and related medical institutions in the area where the cloud computing industry base is located in the form of SaaS (software as a service). The preliminary plan is to take Zhabei District of Shanghai as a pilot.
Looking at all medical information technologies, the biggest obstacle to adopting cloud computing may come from concerns about the security and privacy of patients' information. The medical industry has some specific requirements for data privacy, which have become the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the government has provided protection for personal health information through these provisions.
Similarly, many medical information technology systems deal with life-and-death processes and procedures (such as emergency room screening decision support system or drug interaction database). Cloud computing for the medical industry must have the highest level of availability and provide foolproof security in order to be recognized by the medical market.
Therefore, the general IT cloud computing environment may not be suitable for many medical applications. With the popularization of the concept of private cloud computing, the medical industry must go further: establish a medical cloud environment that specifically meets the security and availability requirements of the medical industry.
