February 22 1990 The the State Council Women and Children's Work Committee's predecessor, the the State Council Women and Children's Work Coordination Committee, was formally established, replacing the National Children and Adolescents' Work Coordination Committee led by the All-China Women's Federation and becoming the deliberation and coordination body in charge of women and children's work in the State Council.

1On August 4th, 1993, the Coordinating Committee for Women and Children's Work in the State Council was renamed the Working Committee for Women and Children in the State Council, which was referred to as the Working Committee for Women and Children in the State Council. It is responsible for coordinating and promoting the relevant government departments to implement various laws, regulations and policies and measures related to women and children, and developing the cause of women and children.

General situation of work

Since its establishment, the the State Council Working Committee on Women and Children has implemented the basic national policy of equality between men and women, adhered to the principle of giving priority to children, and devoted itself to the protection and development of women and children in China.

-Assisting the State Council in formulating and promulgating the China Women's Development Program (1995-2000) and the China Children's Development Program in the 1990s. -Guiding and promoting local governments at all levels to formulate and implement development plans for women and children.

-coordinating and urging relevant government departments to formulate specific plans for implementing the two programs, implementing the program for women and children, and promoting the overall development of the cause of women and children.

-Promote relevant government departments to conscientiously implement the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international conventions protecting the rights and interests of women and children.

-establish and improve the monitoring and evaluation mechanism of the women and children's program, formulate a monitoring and evaluation system, and carry out national monitoring and evaluation.

-Organizing training to strengthen the capacity building of government leaders in implementing the Outline.

-Carry out publicity to raise the concept of gender equality and children's priority in the whole society, mobilize all sectors of society to care for and support the cause of women and children, participate in the implementation of the outline, and create a social environment that respects women and cares for children.

-Play the role of deliberation and coordination, assist relevant departments to solve outstanding problems in the development of women and children, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of women and children according to law.
