Electronic devices are becoming more and more common in children's lives. Children spend a lot of time dealing with digital media every day. The survey shows that the average age of children receiving their first mobile phone is only about 10 years old, and children aged 8- 18 spend about 44.5 hours a week on smart devices, including mobile phones, tablets, computers and televisions.
Researchers at King's College England reviewed the research on the influence of smartphones on sleep time. They learned about nearly 20 studies of 125 198 children, whose average age is 14 years old.
Dr. Ben Carter said that sleep time is a key factor for the healthy development of children. Children aged 6- 13 need about 9- 1 1 hour of sleep every day. Lack of sleep will not only lead to short-term health problems, but also cause long-term adverse effects on the body. Including obesity, decreased immunity and poor mental state.
The results show that using mobile devices before going to bed is closely related to insufficient sleep, poor sleep quality and daytime dozing. In contrast, children who don't play mobile phones before going to bed have better sleep quality. The researchers also found that the longer children spend online, the more difficult it is to complete their homework. Children who spend 2-4 hours surfing the Internet every day will have a 23% lower chance of finishing their homework, and each time they finish their homework, they will be delayed by almost two hours.
Parents need comprehensive advice from medical staff, teachers and government workers to solve this problem. As a kind of people, we should not let our children play with their mobile phones within 90 minutes before going to bed.
