The origin of the Water Splashing Festival

According to the legend, in the ancient times, there was a fierce and cruel fire demon ruling the earth. People hated him so much that they all wanted to get rid of him, but no one could think of a good way. As a result, he did whatever he wanted and became more and more arrogant.

The Fire Devil has seven daughters, all of whom are beautiful and kind, and all of whom are smart and brave. They are very sympathetic and concerned about the suffering and oppressed people, and laborers hate their father as much as they do. They also wanted to kill their father, but they didn't know how to do it. Then Maitreya Buddha told them that in order to kill the fire demon, they must first pluck a hair from his head, which they could use and strangle him to death.

This task was first accomplished by the seventh girl. Don't look at her as the youngest, but she was the bravest and had the sharpest hands. One night, the Fire Demon had just fallen asleep, and a burst of thunder-like snoring was emitted. Secretly staring at the fire demon of the seven girls to see the time has come, immediately from the fire demon head plucked a long hair. Then she used her hair to strangle the fire demon's neck. This method really worked, and the fire demon's head fell off before he could struggle. But there was a new problem, the fire demon's head rolled everywhere, rolled there, there will be a big fire. How can this be, for it will bring mischief to the people as usual? Therefore, the seven sisters panicked. They took turns to hold the head of the fire demon, never letting it fall to the ground, so that no one would be harmed. The fire demon's head was held for a long time, and the seven sisters were so tired that their faces were emaciated and their bodies were covered with dirt. The seven sisters had to take turns to rinse their bodies with water. I do not know how many days and nights, the fire demon's head became shriveled, gradually lost the performance of the fire, and then gradually rupture, into dust. Only then were the seven sisters relieved of that heavy burden. In order to commemorate the righteousness of the seven sisters, every year from April 13 to 15, the Dai people pour water on each other's heads. Over time, this has become the Dai people once a year to express the blessing of the ceremony - Water Festival.
