The Ribbon Dance is supposed to be derived from the hand-thrown apparatus gymnastics category (such as ribbons, balls, hoops, etc.) of Universal Gymnastics.
Popular gymnastics originated in Northern Europe, and then spread to the whole of Europe, has been nearly a hundred years of history, and the first "International Festival of Popular Gymnastics" was held as early as 1939 in Sweden, and since then it has been held once every four years, hosted by different countries on a rotating basis. The Hong Kong Amateur Gymnastics Association (HKAGA) introduced it to Hong Kong in 1993, making Hong Kong the second Asian region to promote gymnastics for all after Japan.
