Huaxi Town has a long history. During the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, the Han army set up camp in the territory. In the early years of the Qing Dynasty, villages were gradually formed along the banks of the Qujiang and Huaxi Rivers, with a history of more than 240 years since the opening of Fufu in the twenty-ninth year of the Qing Emperor Qianlong (1765). Ethnic minorities, mainly Yi, account for 57% of the total population, with a strong Yi ethnic cultural heritage. The town center elementary school has also introduced the Yi cigarette box dance into the campus and compiled a cigarette box drill to pass on this ethnic culture. In the night, on the square and by the street, the people who work all day long dance in groups of three to five, such as the cigarette box dance and the ringing pole dance, and the rich Yi ethnic flavor is fully displayed here. 1949 July Comrade Pu Chaozhu stationed in Exclusive Village under the name of teaching, and Comrade Zhang Fachang stationed in Fudian Elementary School in the capacity of a teacher, engaged in the activities of the underground organization, carried out the work of grain collection, and set up the Farmers' Association. 1949 December Huaxi was peacefully liberated. 1950 April, Huaxi was liberated peacefully, and in 1950 the town was liberated. On April 21, 1950, Yang Chunda, vice-chairman of Huaxi Township People's Government, mutinied and joined hands with Zhang Fengtang, Bai Shaogui, Lu Wanhe, Zhang Yunqing, and other local reactionary leaders to organize a counter-revolutionary riot, broke into the township government, tied up and hanged Zhang Fachang, Sun Congwu, and Li Hsingjia, who were cadres of the grain levies, and pulled Zhang Fachang to the jumping stone to be murdered. The village protection group, the Panxi militia, a regiment of a PLA department, and the Quxi County Independent Brigade set out from Huoning, Panxi, and Quxi respectively to encircle the Huaxi insurgent bandits once again. The picture shows one of the fortresses surrounding the Huaxi bandits.
