March Street has a wonderful legend, according to legend, a long time ago, the Bai people live in a place where there is a tyrant, he was brutal and delicious human eyes, every day to eat a pair of human eyes, which makes the people of the Bai people complained a lot. Suddenly, one day, there came an otherworldly warrior, after he heard about this incident, he was very angry, so he used a wonderful trick to trick the tyrant into the mountains, and then let the dog bite the tyrant to death. The Bai people are very happy, in order to commemorate the warrior every year in the lunar calendar March 15 to 20 days of singing and dancing, over time the formation of the March Street this festival.
March Street has another more acceptable legend, the legend says that a long time ago, there is a ranking of the oldest three dragon lady married to an ordinary fisherman on the Erhai Sea. On the 15th day of March in the lunar calendar, there happened to be a Moon Street event in the sky organized by Chang'e, so the couple flew up to the sky. When they arrived at the Moon Palace, there was a wide variety of things there, but they could only look at them and could not take them away, so the couple felt very uninspired. So they thought of organizing the same event in the mortal world, but unlike the Moon Street in the sky, everything in the mortal world could be bought and sold, and so the festival of March Street came into being every year.
March Street was initially a religious event, but it slowly became a grand exchange of goods. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, traders from Sichuan, Tibet and Jiangnan came here to trade. So March Street is not only a place for exchanging goods, but also a place for displaying various commodities and for horse races and competitions.
