Jing'an District is a municipal district of Shanghai, located in the center of the city center of Shanghai, with an area of 7.62 square kilometers, bordering six districts.
The district borders Huangpu District in the east, Changning District in the west, Luwan District and Xuhui District in the south, Putuo District in the northwest, and Zhabei District in the northeast across the Suzhou River.
Jing'an District is named after the Jing'an Temple, a thousand-year-old temple that was built in 247 AD.
The first modern transportation line in all of Shanghai appeared at the beginning of the 20th century and connected Jing'an Temple to the Bund.

The Jing'an District is also the most concentrated area for high-end hotels in Shanghai due to its history and unique location.
The area is home to the Portman Ritz-Carlton, the Hilton Hotel, the International Guido Hotel, the JC Mandarin, the Shanghai Hotel, the Jing'an Hotel, and the Paramount Hotel.
Jing'an District in the history of many churches, and now still open Christian churches are Huai'en Church (Soong Ching Ling Foundation seat), Xin'en Church, etc.; Catholic Church has Dada Road, Xiao De Ri Za Church, etc..
