Since I couldn't be neutral when interviewing Roy, I decided to start with children, especially since Roy and his girlfriend Tiana Badwell had a baby just a week ago.
As a father, I know that the baby born just one week has occupied all the worries in his heart. So our conversation yesterday started here:
What's it like to be a father?
Very good. To be honest, it felt a little incredible at first. But I can't wait to spend more time with him. But now I have work to do.
Your girlfriend entered the delivery room while you were still in Chicago, and you flew back. Did you come back in time?
I caught up. He may be born in two or three hours. I kept praying on the plane that the baby wouldn't come out in a hurry. As soon as the plane landed, I called my mother. She said the baby hasn't come out yet. Great!
Your girlfriend was in trouble at that time, and you were worried that she would give birth prematurely?
Yes, at that time, she often showed signs of contractions, and the doctor suggested that she be hospitalized for one month. The doctor is worried that the baby will be born at any time. It's been a hard time, especially since I'm out of town, so I can't accompany her.
You are from Seattle, but you live in Portland with your girlfriend. Where are she and the baby now?
They were originally in Portland, but after discussion, we decided to let her go back to Seattle and live with us for a while, because I still have some away games to play, otherwise she would have to take care of the children at home alone. But we have been together for five days, and they left this morning. I have become a father, getting up in the middle of the night to change the baby's diaper, and I hardly slept for a few days. Even if the baby is asleep, I want to sit there and watch him. I always look at the baby when I go to bed.
A friend told me that when their first baby was born, they had to set aside three hours in their daily plan and do nothing but stare at the baby's every move.
Of course, I haven't heard of this, but that's the way it is.
Have you ever been peed by him?
Yes, my girlfriend is out shopping, and I am changing his diaper. He peed everywhere, so I had to wash him and give him a bath. He really picked a good time and peed all over the bed, which made me have to wash the sheets and all the clothes and so on.
Now I want to ask your son's middle name. The whole NBA has learned to spell Dwyane Wade's name, and now your son's middle name is different from that.
How do you spell Dwyane Wade's name?
D-W-Y-A-N-E。
Oh, yes, that's a problem. My son's middle name is D-A-W-A-Y-N-E. I have to ask my mother. She took this name.
I think we need to talk about basketball now. Recently, it seems that every few days, the Blazers will make new announcements: Paul Allen will buy back Arenas, Kevin prichard will become the new general manager, and who will become the new team president one day. How do you feel about this?
I'm excited about these things, and I'm glad to be a part of them. I have always longed to be an important member of the NBA team. Now we are going through these reconstruction processes here, and we will help the team reproduce the glory of five or ten years ago.
What's your relationship with team manager Kevin prichard?
I have a good relationship with KP. I first met him in a trial in Seattle before the draft. Later, we had a long talk with the older generation of players about basketball. I was deeply impressed by his knowledge of the game. Later, when I was selected, I heard from the team that KP worked hard to win me over. Now, whenever I put on my uniform, I try my best to make him proud of me.
Which older players have you talked about?
He compared me to clyde drexler with a smile.
Except for the way you dribble.
Yes, I guess what he means is that my role in the team is the same as his, and the way we play ball is not very similar.
What do you think of playing point guard?
I like this position. When I was in college, I played a lot in this position, and the pioneers scouts observed me for a lot of time. They asked me to try a lot of ball control and breakthrough practice before the draft. In the summer league, nathaniel mcmillan said to me, "Now your dream will come true. You have to play point guard throughout the summer league."
Will this be your long-term plan?
Point guard may not be my position. But obviously, sometimes I am asked to play this role. Coach wants to use me, just like the Heat used Wade. In a close game, there will be one more point guard on the court, but I will always control the ball and control a little more in the first half.
You wrote a blog about Blazers.com. Did you really sit down and type on the keyboard or did someone else write it for you?
I sat with the staff in Blazers.com. I dictated and they typed it for me. Raemakers and I take turns to write, and I want to urge him to write quickly, because I have accumulated a lot to say next time.
The blazers may get another high contract this year. Are you worried about their choice?
I am not worried about the influence of the draft. Now I think about how to win the next game every day. I know there are some very talented big men in this year's draft, and you can't make mistakes on them.
KP and his colleagues are working hard, and some people in the team have been paying attention to the draft. I am glad to see that they want to choose a person who is not only excellent, but also adapts to the good atmosphere that the team has been trying to create off the court. It's great who they choose. I'm not worried at all.
