The Yuquan Temple in the city of Dangyang has had a significant impact on the history of Buddhism in China, having been built at the end of the Han Dynasty and flourished during the Wu Zhou Dynasty, and was the dojo of the Zen Buddhist monk, Grandmaster Shen Xiu (the Sixth Patriarch of the Northern Sect in the 'Northern Gradualism and Southern Densification' of Zen), and of Grandmaster Zhi Zhi of the Tiantai Sect, who was the de facto founder of Tiantai Sect. Changbanpo is located in the east of the city of Dangyang, and was the battlefield of the Battle of Changbanpo, a battle of the Three Kingdoms period.
