Synopsis:
Hong Kong policewoman Lee Fung Yee (played by Cecilia Cheung) is arrested for public nudity by a stripper, a big man (played by Andy Lau), who refuses to be arrested and flees, and meets with the Serious Crimes Unit (SCPU) officers in pursuit of a suspected killer. The CID is convinced that Big Guy is related to the suspect and tortures him. Yee is convinced that Big Guy has nothing to do with the murder case and stands up for him.
Yi learns from the file that Big Guy was a tourist and a monk many years ago, and is impressed by Big Guy. Seeing Yee's good heart, the big guy told Yee that he saw the impulsiveness of the officers of the Crime Squad and thought that they would both lose in the pursuit of the suspect, and threatened that he had a way to catch the suspect in exchange for the release of the suspect. Yee comes from a family of policemen and her father and elder brother were both killed in the line of duty catching a thief. Yee does not want history to repeat itself and agrees to work with Big Guy to catch the suspect. Yi falls from a building while trying to catch a robber, but Big Guy shows up in time to save her. Yi-Yi realizes that Big Guy is in love with her, so she asks him out on a date, but Big Guy misses the date. On the pretext of looking for Big Guy to help investigate an old case, Yee asks Big Guy about the reason for his sudden warmth. Big Guy confesses that he only saw Yee's "karma" will die in vain, but he felt that Yee was kind-hearted, so he came to Yee's rescue in the hope of solving the problem for Yee in vain, which Yee finds hard to accept after learning about it. The big guy knows that the old case is the one in which Yee's father was killed and decides to help. After recovering from his injuries, Yee decided to give a gift to the big guy and returned to China to investigate Xiao Cui's case.
Yee realizes that the fugitive who killed Xiao Cui is still hiding in the mountain, so he goes to the mountain to look for the murderer. The murderer is a man who has been killed by the fugitive, but he is also killed by the fugitive. When he learns of Yi's death, he sits under the tree again and sees the cycle of the "food chain" once more, and is truly "enlightened".
