The forest train in Alishan is one of the only three alpine railways in the world. It has a history of 100 years. Old-fashioned red locomotives and old-fashioned carriages, accompanied by the click of wheels, have become a landscape of Alishan. It feels like traveling through time and space. This railway line was specially built by the Japanese to transport the precious timber from Alishan to the mainland. Alnus cremastogyne is a precious tree species with slow growth, hard wood and beautiful texture.

(2) Xianglin Shenmu, Shulin Tower and Xianglin Primary School
There used to be many alders in Alishan, but during the Japanese occupation, all alders over 1000 years old were illegally cut down by the Japanese. Now there is a wooden house on the lawn outside the Japanese Imperial Palace, which is made of Alnus cremastogyne.
At that time, a Japanese ranger named Qin came to Alishan and found precious cypress trees, so he suggested that the Japanese government cut them down in large quantities. However, after these ancient trees are cut down, the Japanese who cut them down will suffer from strange diseases. For fear of wanton destruction of life, they built a tree essence tower near a 2300-year-old cypress tree to appease the soul of the ancient tree.
This 2300-year-old juniper tree is the oldest juniper tree in Alishan, and it is called "Xianglin Shenmu". There are 4200-year-old trees, but the trunk has been cut down by the Japanese, leaving only huge roots.
There is a primary school on the mountain, named Xianglin National Primary School. There are more than 50 local students, but more than 20 teachers, including many volunteers.
