The Shangri-La Horse Racing Festival will begin on the Dragon Boat Festival (June 7) and last for 14 days, the municipal party committee and government of Shangri-La, Yunnan Province, and China National Tourism Group Corp. jointly announced on the 24th. There will be horse teams from Ganzi in Sichuan province and several cities in Yunnan province competing together, and it is expected to attract 350,000 tourists from all over the country.
The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the major annual traditional festivals in Shangri-La. As the oldest ethnic traditional event in Shangri-La and the most popular Dragon Boat Festival, it was formerly known as the May Horse Fair, which was spontaneously organized by the folk during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and was officially renamed as the Shangri-La Dragon Boat Festival in 1997.
The program mainly consists of equestrian events and individual events of folk traditional sports. These include specific 1000m, 3000m and 5000m speed races, horse racing archery, horse racing hada racing and 1000m and 3000m horse racing.
Compared with previous years, the overall scale of the festival is larger. In addition to traditional activities such as cultural performances, equestrian performances, equestrian competitions, and traditional ethnic and folk sports individual events, it will also host special events such as Shangri-La's non-heritage song and dance performances, and a display of Shangri-La's intangible cultural heritage and traditional skills.

The first Shangri-La Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition, the first Shangri-La Intangible Cultural Heritage and Traditional Arts Exhibition, the first China Tourism Group Shangri-La Tourism High-end Closed Door Summit, the first global launch of China Tourism Group's "Gift of Time" Shangri-La Tourism Poverty Alleviation Route, the Fifth Shangri-La Youth Singers Grand Prix, the first Shangri-La Square Dance Competition, the Shangri-La Characteristic Merchandise Fair, the third Shangri-La Branded Vehicle Show, the Shangri-La Specialty Products Trade Show, the third Shangri-La brand car show, "commemorating the 1110th anniversary of the King of Wuyue Jinfeng" Xiling famous seal carving invitational exhibition and other activities.
Compared with the previous Dragon Boat Racing Festival, there are many highlights, the content is richer.
