Xi 'an City Wall spans from Sui and Tang Dynasties to Ming and Qing Dynasties. Now the complete city wall is the Ming city wall, with a total length of 13.7 km. It was built in Ming Taizu Hongwu for three years (65,438+0370) and completed in Hongwu for eleven years (65,438+0378).
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were city gates around Xi 'an City Wall, the east gate was named Changle Gate, the south gate was named Yongning Gate, the west gate was named Andingmen, and the north gate was named Anyuanmen. The names of the four gates reflect the high hopes of the rulers in the early Ming Dynasty for Xi 'an, a political and military town, to defend the northwest, stabilize the frontier and consolidate the empire. At present, the name of the door on the lintel of Sichengmen was inscribed by Zhang Fenghui, Governor of Shaanxi Province, in July of the first year of the Republic of China (19 12). Since the Republic of China, in order to facilitate access to the ancient city, many new city gates have been built, such as Chaoyangmen and Yuxiangmen. Up to now, Xi 'an City Wall has 18 gates.
