Cili County belongs to Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province.

Located in the northwest of Hunan Province, the middle reaches of Lishui River and the eastern edge of Wuling Mountains. It borders Shimen County in the northeast and Taoyuan County in the southeast. The northwest is connected with Wulingyuan District and Sangzhi County, and the southwest is connected with Yongding County and Yuanling County, with a total area of 3,480.47 square kilometers.

Cigu County, located in Qin Dynasty, governs an xiang, Lixian, Jinshi, Linli, Shimen, Cili, Dayong and Sangzhi counties, as well as a part of Gongan, Hefeng and Taoyuan counties (excluding the land zoned by Yongding County 1953).

1. Origin of place names: According to the Records of the Historian, in the eighteenth year of Sui Huangkai (598), Lingling County was changed to Cili County, hence the name.
