Background of Creation
In 1943, the rice-planting dance team of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts intended to go to Nanniwan in Yan'an to show their sympathy to the 359th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army, and the choreographers and creators, after a lot of pondering and thinking, finally came up with a rice-planting dance named Pick the Basket of Flowers, which consists of eight female performers picking eight flower baskets, and the dance is performed by eight female performers. Eight pairs of flower baskets were picked by eight actresses and performed on stage to an interlude song.
Lyricist He Jingzhi received the task of creating lyrics for the song, combined with his own deep knowledge and experience of the military and civilian production movement in the border areas, especially the 359th Brigade's reclamation of Nanniwan, and wrote the lyrics for the song in one go. Afterwards, the composer Ma Ke used the tune of the northern Shaanxi folk song to compose the music for the interlude. This episode was later named Nanniwan ? .
