First, how did this happen?
This happened in February 2022. A couple in Guizhou Province finally entered the marriage hall after falling in love for three years.
On their wedding day, they felt cold in the room, so the groom's mother found an iron basin, put some coal in it and lit it. The room was much warmer after the coal was lit, so the young couple had a rest.
However, until noon the next day, the young couple did not get up. People at home felt something was wrong and knocked at the door, but no one answered. Later, the family may have an accident, so they jumped out of the window to check the situation in the house and found that the young couple had died in the house.
At first, the family thought they died of murder, so they called the police. However, after examining the corpse and the scene, the police thought that the death symptoms of the young couple were consistent with the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, so the possibility of homicide was ruled out.
Second, how to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
More than 50,000 people die of carbon monoxide poisoning every year in China. This is because burning coal for heating in winter is still very common in rural areas of China.
Coal releases some carbon monoxide during combustion. If the room is not well ventilated, carbon monoxide will be inhaled by the human body, leading to human poisoning.
Therefore, in order to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, it is necessary to put an end to indoor coal burning. If there is really no other heating method and coal needs to be burned, it is necessary to install a chimney on the coal stove to discharge the burnt gas outside the house.
Third, what is my opinion?
I think it's really distressing. If the young couple can use other heating methods when they feel cold in the house, maybe such a tragedy will not happen.
Summary: If you want to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, don't burn coal and other substances containing carbon monoxide indoors. If it is really necessary to burn coal, a chimney should be installed on the coal stove for exhaust.
