Fresh and elegant Vietnamese lakeside bamboo pavilion restaurant

Next to a main road connecting Hanoi and Hua Binh in Vietnam, there is a fresh and elegant Vietnamese lakeside Bamboo Pavilion restaurant. It is about 30 kilometers away from Hanoi. It is a good place for Hanoi residents to take a leisure day trip, and passes by Long-distance travel buses and cars often choose to stop here to rest.

Due to its special location, in order to create a private space and protect customers from being disturbed by the busy traffic on the main road, the floor of the restaurant is slightly sunken, slightly lower than the road . Stepping from the busy main road into the dining area under the bamboo vaults, a natural lake appears in front of you. Twelve clumps of bamboo “growing upward” support the roof, forming a semi-outdoor dining area. The curvilinear plan surrounds the event stage in the center of the lake, while also creating an intimate atmosphere.

The designer used two types of bamboo, Tam Vong and Luong, to construct the bamboo piles. Their different material properties are crucial to the building structure. The Vietnamese use natural and traditional methods to make bamboo meet the requirements of high-quality and durable building materials. This natural approach also contributes to the building’s sustainability.

The space under the bamboo piles meets the requirements of natural ventilation, and the evaporation of water from the adjacent lake also makes the place cooler. The logistics service area is located in a separate building, and the walls are made of laterite bricks, a special regional material. These orange earthen bricks, together with the bamboo structure, express the traditional regional architectural language. The building provides a space where people can feel a strong connection to the regional culture of northern Vietnam. The use of open spaces and natural materials enable interconnectivity.
