Shangdang is in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province.

Shangdang District is part of Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, located in the southeastern part of Shanxi, at the western foot of the Taihang Mountains, and at the southern edge of the Shangdang Basin. East of Hu Guan County, west of Changzi County, north and Changzhi Luzhou District border, south and Gaoping City, Lingchuan County neighboring. The total area of the district is 483 square kilometers. As of 2020, Shangdian District has one street, six towns, three townships, one new district and two development zones under its jurisdiction, with the district government stationed in Handian Street. According to the seventh population census, as of November 1, 2020, the resident population of Shangdang District was 319,660 people.

Shang Dang District has a long history, as early as 10,000 years ago, there are human beings flourished. Yandi, the founder of the Chinese nation, had built the Jie state here, tasted all kinds of herbs, taught agriculture, and accomplished the transformation from migration to settlement, from fishing and hunting to farming. In the 55th year of the reign of King Blush of the Zhou Dynasty (260 years ago), after the Battle of Changping between Qin and Zhao, Shangdang became part of Qin, and Shangdang County was established.

Southeast of the high terrain, is the west of the Taihang Vein and Taiyue east foothills of the intersection of the mountainous areas. Southwestern hills are interspersed, for the intermittent rolling hills. The central and northwestern part of the alluvial plains in front of the mountains form an open plain area.

Shangdang District has a temperate continental climate, with four distinct seasons, a long winter and a short summer, and a long spring and a short fall. Mild climate, rain and heat in the same season, dry and windy spring, hot and rainy summer, cool and early frost in the fall, cold and dry winter. Vertical changes in climate are not very significant.
