What is the grassland like?

Grassland dominated by herbs can provide living places for domestic animals and wild animals. It is formed by the interaction of atmosphere, soil and biology. Among them, atmospheric temperature and precipitation dominate. China is one of the countries with the richest grassland resources in the world, with a total grassland area of nearly 400 million hectares, accounting for 40% of the total land area.

Vegetation on the grassland:

Basically, ground budding plants, especially tufted grass, are the builders of communities.

Underground budding plants, such as rhizomatous grasses and Carex, are dominant in many grasslands (light soil).

There are also many dicotyledonous weeds. For example, some species of Compositae, Leguminosae and Rosaceae thrive near the forest (with good water content), with grasses as the advantage, deep roots and storage of water and nutrients. The roots of some weeds in arid areas branch underground, which is twice as deep as grass.

On-ground budding plants (short semi-shrubs) sometimes have advantages, especially in desert areas, such as Caragana, Chrysanthemum, Artemisia, Kochia scoparia and other species in Eurasian grassland.

Trees in high-bud plants are widely distributed in savanna, such as acacia in Africa and eucalyptus in Oceania, with flat-topped umbrella crowns.

Annual plants with overwintering seeds, in the grassland area of Mediterranean climate, there are a class of short-lived plants, which often flourish in spring, such as Kentucky bluegrass and tulip.

Moss, lichen and algae are also common groups in grassland. They are located on the surface and only use the water and nutrients in the soil surface.

Extended data

Be distributed

1, temperate grassland

Occurred in Eurasia, located at the outer edge of temperate desert areas, such as China, Mongolia, Xinjiang and Central Asia. Hills and plains in southern Europe, Russia and the western United States. This inland area mainly relies on summer ocean monsoon and thermal convection for mid-year rainfall, while Europe, Russia, Ukraine and Central Asia have more rainfall in winter, which is due to the Mediterranean cyclone.

2. savanna

It occurs on both sides of the subtropical high in the southern and northern hemispheres and is distributed around the tropical desert. The representative areas are the outer edge of the Sahara desert in North Africa, southwest Asia, southwest North America and Australia in the southern hemisphere.

Located on the equatorial side, it is connected with savanna climate (AW) in summer, and the rainfall is concentrated in summer, belonging to summer rain type savanna (BShw). However, in the polar region, because the westerly belt moves south in winter, the rainfall is concentrated in winter, which is connected with the Mediterranean climate and belongs to the winter rain type tropical grassland (BShs).
