In the mid-autumn of 1076 A.D., the lyricist was facing a bright moon and his heart was fluttering, so he took advantage of the wine and was in the full swing of his heart to write this famous piece.
This poem was written in Mizhou during the mid-autumn of 1076 A.D. (the ninth year of Emperor Xining of the Song Dynasty). Su Shi had asked to be transferred to an official position closer to Su Zhe, and in 1074 A.D. (the seventh year of Xining) Su Shi was sent to Mizhou. After arriving in Mizhou, this wish still could not be realized.
