Rouran, also known as creepy, Rui Rui, Ru Ru, creepy, etc. In the epitaphs and dramas of the Northern Dynasties, they are often called "Xiongnu", "Ghost Fang", "Fierce Slave", "Northern Land" and "Northern Emperor". The name "Rouran" began with the self-declaration of Chelu Society. The name of "creeping" is that Emperor Tuoba Tao of the Northern Wei Dynasty thought Rouran was mentally retarded, so he mocked them as worms who couldn't think, so he ordered the military and civilians all over the country to rename Rouran "creeping". In the late Northern Wei Dynasty, Rouran took "Ru Ru" as his surname or first name. The word "Rouran" has the meaning of "intelligence and wisdom", or the meaning of "courtesy", or comes from Altai "foreigner" or "absinthe".
Regarding the origin of Rouran people, due to the differences and brevity of historical records, there are theories of Donghu, Xianbei, Xiongnu and miscellaneous Hu beyond the Great Wall. For example, it is mentioned in the Biography of Wei Shu that Fei Fei is a "seedling of Donghu", "Xiongnu" and "the ancestral origin is from the Great Wei". Rouran is regarded as another kind of Xiongnu in Biography of Rousseau in Song Dynasty and Biography of Liang Shu Rui Rui. However, Nanqi's Biography of Rui Rui Lu is considered to be "a miscellaneous Hu beyond the Great Wall". In addition, some European historical works call Rouran "awar". It is believed that in the middle of the 5th century AD, a nation named awar, who lived on the Pacific coast, migrated to Central Asia due to the sea fog and the invasion of dragons and snakes, forcing Saville and other ethnic groups to flee to the west. Awal is soft. Some scholars hold a negative attitude. Or think that softness and joy are a family.
In fact, in its heyday (about 4 10-425 AD), it spread all over the desert, reaching the shore of Lake Baikal in the north, the northern foot of Yinshan in the south, Daxing 'anling in the northeast, bordering Doudou, Kumoxi and Qidan in the west, Junggar Basin and Yili River Basin in the west, and once entered Tarim Basin, making Tianshan South Road countries. In the process of soft development, it gradually merged with other ethnic elements. According to Shu Wei, History of the North and other historical records, there were more than 60 surnames under Rouran's jurisdiction from the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties, among which the ethnic groups and tribes belonging to Rouran were Jiulv, Yilvlin, Ermian, Yortu, Neishi, Afugan, Gesi and Chiwo. There are Tuoba, Qiu Dun, Wuluzhen, Sugegan, Wei Chi, Gu Hun, Pilu, Wudiyan, Monalou, Chidouhun, Kupingguan, Wenpen, Shuli and Ubbelohde. Belonging to Chile are Yi's, Hu's, Flores's, Dabugan's, Wu Yin's, Tamogu's, Qi Jin's, Qi Fuli's and Dong's. Belonging to the rest of the Huns, there are Babu (said to be Chile), He Shuye and Wu Luolan; Belonging to Ashna, Turkey; Belonging to Hu in the Western Regions are Long's, Gao's (said to be Han Chinese), Xi Licuo, Hou Yicuo and so on. In addition, Rouran has some Han people. From the above, Rouran is mainly composed of Xianbei, Chile, Xiongnu, Turkic and other ethnic groups and tribes. Therefore, the theory that Donghu, Xianbei and Xiongnu descendants are different species has certain reasonable factors.
However, as far as the hereditary nobility of the gentle ruler is concerned, it is undoubtedly out of the Tuoba Xianbei tribal alliance. Rouran, a leader belonging to the Northern Wei Dynasty, once said to Emperor Xiaoming of the Northern Wei Dynasty, "I am a minister who originated from the Great Wei Dynasty." Xu Yuan replied, "I have" to show his approval. Therefore, some history books refer to the gentle Khan society as Xianbei society or Hexi Xianbei society. It shows that Rouran, Tuoba and Turkic all have ancestral homes, which were formed by the fusion of Xianbei and Xiongnu. Rouran nobility is a branch separated from Tuoba Xianbei. With the development of the northern and southern soft forces in the desert, they parted ways with Tuoba Xianbei, who entered the Central Plains, and their differences became increasingly apparent.
