About Australia:

The Commonwealth of Australia (English: The Commonwealth of Australia), or simply "Australia" (Australia). Its territory covers an area of 7,692,024 square kilometers, located between the South Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, surrounded by the sea on all sides, is the only country in the world that covers an entire continent, so also known as "Australia".

Australia, with its unique flora, fauna and natural beauty, is a multicultural country of immigrants. The word Australia, which originally meant "southern continent", is a variation of the Latin word terraaustralis (southern land). When Europeans discovered the continent in the 17th century, they mistakenly thought it was a piece of land leading straight to the South Pole, so they named it "Australia".

Australia was originally inhabited by Australian Aborigines, and in the 17th century, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch colonizers arrived in the country; it became a British colony in 1788, a self-governing territory of the United Kingdom in 1901, and an independent country within the Commonwealth of Nations in 1931.
