College Story——Female Basketball Captain Zhang Jianliang

Zhang Jianliang, a man of the hour in 8160, was born in Liangshan, Sichuan. He was the first Youth League branch secretary of 8160, captain of the women’s basketball team, and was once a player on the municipal basketball team.

The story begins in April 1982. After more than a semester of running-in, Class 8160 began to emerge on Jiangcai Campus. Zhang Li won first place in the speech contest and Senior Brother Gao won the first place in the school sports meeting. The singing of the 100-meter champion and Zhang Guimin made our Department of Agricultural Economics, the last to be established among all majors in the school, famous, and 8160 also began its own glorious university journey. In the context of the era when the Chinese women's volleyball team won the world championship, the school's annual grade basketball league has begun. Our 8160 women's basketball team went out to compete with the expectations of all the teachers and students in the department.

Compared with traditional professional classes such as industrial economics, industrial accounting, finance, basic trade and planning statistics, our Department of Agricultural Economics only has two classes, 80 and 81, which are the largest classes and the largest number of students in the school. The least department. It is our women's basketball team, the newly established agricultural finance major class, that has once again impressed other professional classes. The women's basketball team, led by captain Zhang Jianliang and composed of 8160 girls including Li Liping, Zhang Li, He Sang, Zhou Hui, Yang Guilan, defeated the labor union, chamber of commerce and trade and economics classes in the 81 grade basketball league, ushering in the A group life and death battle in the engineering and economics class.

"Workers and peasants are one family" may be due to this traditional revolutionary slogan. The school arranged our class and the industrial economics class to take joint classes, which resulted in a lot of differences between our agricultural economics and industrial economics classes. Chemical reaction, the most famous "Five Brothers" incident in the school back then, was when Peng Zhongtian from our class and Zheng Yuewen from the Engineering and Economics class played the leading roles. Therefore, the game against the 81 Engineering and Economics Women’s Basketball Team attracted much attention. On the afternoon of the game, the basketball court next to the six dormitory buildings was filled with cheerleaders cheering for both sides. Basically all of our class came out. Teacher Tang, the head teacher, and The secretary of the department was present in person. Because the court area was too small, a group of students stood in the woods beside the court. It was these students standing in the woods who would shout out unusually neat and loud cheers every time our women's basketball team scored on offense. The competition was exciting and fierce, with ups and downs throughout the process. Amid the cheers and cheers from the woods, 8160 narrowly won with a narrow score of 29:27. In the subsequent competition, our basketball women's team relied on the lingering power of narrowly defeating the engineering and economics class to reach the finals. However, they narrowly lost against the 81 Financial Women's Basketball Team, which is recognized as a strong team, and won the runner-up.

Objectively speaking, the level of basketball competition on college campuses in the 1980s was not very high, especially for women’s basketball, because there were more boys than girls in each class. Generally, there were only ten students in each class. There are only seven or eight girls in some classes. It is not easy to gather five people to play basketball. Although there are more than a dozen girls in our class, basketball is really not a sport that only requires one person. Many girls like us can only be cheerleaders. In this way, our classmate Jianliang established the 8160 women's basketball team in the shortest possible time. With the help of Senior Brother Gao, Lu Hengxin, Wu Dehong and other classmates, they conducted a hurried training session and achieved impressive results. Remarkable results.

To be honest, the two weeks of the women's basketball game should be the most exciting and happiest time for us boys who can't play, dance, or sing. In that era of reform and opening up, group activities, especially group sports like the women's basketball game, completely inspired all of us to have a sense of collective honor. In the small woods beside the stadium, there was no local prejudice. There is no distinction between urban and rural areas. Our Lei Jianping even made the mistake of hugging an unknown girl in the next class without any problem. What excites us all even more is that our women's basketball team captain Zhang Jianliang became famous in one battle. Her ball-holding skills, dribbling speed and dexterity are outstanding, especially her three-step layup and the grace of passing the ball into the basket. It makes all the men’s basketball players in our class feel ashamed, and makes those of us who don’t know how to play basketball extremely admired.

Even I can’t explain it clearly. I don’t know how to play basketball, so I let my daughter learn to play basketball when she was in elementary school. In the past two decades, the most popular games she watched were the CBA and NBA. I don’t know if it was influenced by the 8160 Women’s Basketball Team. The influence is still due to the influence of classmate Jianliang, captain of our 8160 women’s basketball team.

When I was watching the live broadcast between the NBA Raptors and Trail Blazers this morning, I remembered that our classmate Zhang Jianliang posted a wonderful video of her three-step layup on WeChat some time ago. An exciting women's basketball tournament during the second semester of freshman year. Therefore, I decided to write about our 8160 man of the hour today - Zhang Jianliang, captain of the women's basketball team. It must be noted that due to the passage of time, many exciting moments and specific scores cannot be remembered clearly, and I did not have time to chat privately with my classmates. But I clearly remember that in the second semester of my sophomore year, that is, in April 1982, the 8160 women’s basketball team, led by Zhang Jianliang, once again reached the semi-finals and finally won the third place. Once again, we 8160 students were given a gift. Many great games. For many years later, in Jiangxi and Zhuhai, I would go to watch basketball games whenever I had the chance. Whenever I watched a basketball game, I would think of the 8160 Women’s Basketball Team and our women’s basketball captain.
