Weihe River originated in the southern foot of Taihang Mountain in Bai Quan Town, huixian city, Henan Province.
Baiquanchi at the foot of Lushan Mountain, the Weihe River is more than 900 kilometers long, and the main stream below Hehe River is 283 kilometers long, spanning Henan, Shandong, Hebei and Tianjin, and finally entering Haihe River and flowing into Bohai Sea from Tianjin. Because it mainly flows through the land of the ancient Wei State, it has been called Weihe River since the Sui Dynasty, which is the mother river of Xinxiang City. Before 1960s, it was also an important inland waterway in North China Plain (Xinxiang-Tianjin) and one of the five tributaries of Haihe River.
Weihe River has two sources, one at the foot of Sumen Mountain in huixian city, Xinxiang, Henan Province, and the other at Zaojiaoshu Village, Bo 'ai County, Jiaozuo City, Henan Province. They all originate from the confluence of Hehe Village in Xinxiang County, Qimen in Xun County, Qishui, Huanshui in Anyang County, Tangyin and Tangshui, and are formed by the confluence of more than ten tributaries such as Qihe River, Huan River (Anyang River) and Tanghe River. The main stream below Hehe River is 283 kilometers long and flows through Xinxiang City, Xinxiang County, Jixian County (now Weihui City), Xunxian County, hua county, tangyin county, Neihuang County, qingfeng county and Nanle County of Henan Province, as well as Weixian County of Hebei Province, daming county and guanxian of Shandong Province. When Xuwancang Village, Luli Township, Guantao County, Handan City, Hebei Province meets Zhanghe River, it is called Wei Canal, with a total length of 157 km. Zhang Weixin flows eastward into the Bohai Sea at Dahekou, with a total length of 245 kilometers.
The so-called Weihe River usually refers to the section from Hehe Township in Xinxiang, Henan Province to Chenggou Bay in Liaocheng, Shandong Province.

The Weihe River in a broad sense includes the Weihe River in the upper reaches, the Weihe River in the middle reaches and the South Canal in the lower reaches, collectively referred to as the Weihe River.
