Robotics Competition in China

Robotics competitions have been introduced into campuses for more than a decade, and have become a powerful means to cultivate innovative talents and promote education reform. Robotics competition programs are popular among students of all ages for their fun, challenging, comprehensive and confrontational nature.

Educational robots are robots used for science quality education, engineering quality education and engineering skills education. The use of robots as an educational platform is intuitive, interesting, and comprehensive, and once proposed it was immediately emphasized by the global education community and developed rapidly. In order to meet the needs of education, the four major components of educational robots, such as machinery, control, sensors and software, must meet the requirements of openness and expansion, and be able to be closely integrated with the teaching curriculum at all levels to achieve the teaching and training requirements of close integration of theory and practice.

The China Educational Robotics Competition is a stage for students and teachers to showcase their teaching achievements and promote educational innovation based on the introduction of educational robots into the classroom. The basic purpose of the China Educational Robotics Competition is to emphasize hands-on ability and popularize robotics innovation education with the help of the most basic educational robotics platform.

Sponsored by the Robotics Competition Working Committee of the Chinese Society of Automation and the Intelligent Robotics Specialized Committee of the Chinese Society of Artificial Intelligence***, the 2011 and 2012 competitions were hosted by Shenzhen University, and the first competition co-hosted by Shenzhen University and the Shenzhen Robotics Association was successfully held at Shenzhen University on Nov. 12-14, 2011, attracting more than 30 colleges, universities and schools from all over the country. It attracted more than 30 universities and secondary schools from all over the country, with nearly 300 participants. The competition programs set up included: Educational Robot Intelligent Handling Competition, Educational Robot Ring, Educational Robot Tour of Shenzhen, Creative Design and Production of Educational Robots, Collaboration and Dance of Micro and Small Swarm Robots, and Soccer Robot Competition of the Medium-sized Group. In the competition, there are both projects determined by drawing lots on the spot according to the standard problems, requiring students to build robot sensing circuits, debugging programs, and complete the project within the specified time, and there are also competitive confrontation projects of international standard problems such as soccer robots, which are both highly technically challenging and highly entertaining to watch, and are a perfect combination of education, scientific research, and recreation.
