Washington's story about honesty ~

Washington was very brave as a boy. One day, his father gave him a small axe. It was brand new and small and sharp. Little Washington was very happy. He thought, "If my father's big axe can cut down big trees, can my little axe cut down small trees? I'm going to try it.

He saw a cherry tree at the edge of the garden, and the breeze was blowing it around as if it were beckoning to him, "Come on, Little Washington, try your little axe on me!" Little Washington ran over happily and raised his little axe to the cherry tree.

One blow, two blows ...... and the cherry tree fell to the ground. He used the little axe again to cut away the branches and leaves of the little tree, and put the little stick of the tree between his legs, and with one hand holding up the little axe and the other holding the little stick of the tree, he played a game of horseback riding and fighting in the garden.

His father came home and was very angry when he saw the little tree that had been cut down, for the cherry tree had cost a great deal of money to buy and was Washington's father's favorite tree.

Washington saw that his father was very angry, although he was afraid that he would be punished, but he still had the courage to tell his father: "Dad, I cut down the cherry tree! I just wanted to try if the axe you gave me was sharp."

His father saw that Washington had the courage to admit his mistake, and instead of punishing him, he praised him greatly: "Good boy, your honesty is a great comfort to me, because even 10,000 cherry trees are not as good as an honest boy!"
