Where does Snow Lotus grow?

Saussurea involucrata is a precious Chinese herbal medicine, which grows in Tianshan Mountain in northwest China and Medog area in Tibet. There are different kinds of Saussurea involucrata: Saussurea involucrata with leaves like cabbage, and Saussurea involucrata with plants crawling on the ground. They are not afraid of the cold, proud of flying snow in the wind and full of vitality. People regard it as a symbol of perseverance. Saussurea involucrata grows on the rocky beach at an altitude of 4500 ~ 5000 meters. There are piles of stone chips, strong mountain wind, rapidly changing climate and strong ultraviolet radiation, which are impossible for ordinary plants to survive. Saussurea involucrata's plants are short and thick, with leaves sticking to the ground and covered with white fluff, which can prevent cold, wind and ultraviolet rays. The roots of Saussurea involucrata are very developed and can be effectively inserted into gaps to absorb water and nutrients. Every July, Saussurea involucrata will also produce large and gorgeous flowers. There are several membranous bracts outside its corolla, which are used to keep out the cold, moisturize and reflect ultraviolet rays. Whenever the weather is clear and sunny, Saussurea involucrata stretches its leaves and bracts to the fullest, bringing vitality to the snowy plateau.
