Philip didn't die.
Derese's family wanted him to be able to leave Phillip because he wasn't meant to be in the rich man's circle. And Phillip realized that Driss's family needed her, and because of his own paralysis was afraid that he would hold Driss back from taking care of his disabled self for the rest of his life. Eventually Driss left Phillip's home and went out to find work again, taking care of his brother and his family, and he went on to have a successful career as a business executive.
Philip was initially uncomfortable after Dries left, but slowly adapted. The two are still good friends and keep in touch regularly.
Expanded InformationThe Untouchables Synopsis
One is Phillip, a wheelchair-bound tycoon with mobility problems, and the other is ex-con Derris, a young black man with a knack for reading people, who is now Phillip's "babysitter," taking care of him in every way. He is now the "nanny" of Phillip, taking care of everything he eats, sleeps and breathes.
On the surface, Philip and Dries bear no resemblance to each other, whether it's their backgrounds or their statuses, they're basically polar opposites. But even so, these two have developed a not-so-stable but consistently rising friendship, and all of it is rooted in sincerity, honesty and humor.
In the process, they will both undergo an emotional baptism like no other, while forcing them to re-examine the meaning of life and love.
