Greek goddesses of fairness: Themis and Astraea
There are two goddesses representing fairness in ancient Greek mythology, Themis and her daughter Astraea. Themis, the goddess of fairness in charge of the divine realm, was the offspring of Uranus, the god of the sky, and his wife (and mother) Gaea, the goddess of the earth.
Semis was Zeus' counselor when Zeus purged the old pantheon. In mythological depictions, Seamis held the "scales of justice" in one hand and a sword in the other. Her eyes were always closed, meaning that she made decisions based on what was fair in her heart, without interference from reality.
Later, Symmes was united with Zeus and gave birth to a daughter, Asthemia. The word Astromia means "pure virgin of the beautiful starry sky". Astemia later became the goddess of justice in charge of the human world, responsible for resolving various matters related to politics and society. In the mythological depiction, Astemia's ears are adorned with grain and she also holds a sword, but instead of a "balance of justice," she has a scale in her hand to weigh grain.
The ancient poet Hessiod once depicted Astomia in a poem as a "fair virgin". At the side of Zeus, she poured out the evil in the hearts of earthly men to her father. Her protector was Demeter, the god of the valley.
