Zhu Yonglong has choreographed too many dances, there are many he can no longer recall, the most impressive, his own special favorite including Jacky Cheung's "Hair Messed Up", "Legend of the Bad Wolf", "Wildcat Love", "CorazondeMelao", as well as Leslie Cheung's "Red" ("Across the 97" concert) and "Debauchery" ("Passion" concert) by Leslie Cheung, as well as dancing to Aaron Kwok's "Can't Get Enough of You".
He also danced to "Side by Side" at the farewell.
Chu Yonglong: Hong Kong famous dance choreography teacher, has worked with Leslie Cheung in concerts including: Leslie Cheung Farewell Concert, Across 97 Concert, Passion Concert.
It is impossible to talk about Leslie Cheung's stage performances without mentioning the tango version of "Red" in the Cross 97 concert. Many people thought that was the first collaboration between Chu and his brother, but in fact he had already performed in his brother's farewell concert back in 1989. In his mind, his brother is definitely a worthy predecessor.
[At that time, I had just graduated and had just started working as a choreographer. I was involved in choreographing some of the songs in that concert, such as Miss you much and Favorite. The deepest impression I got from my brother was the seriousness of his performance at work. I especially remember that during the last show of the farewell concert, he told all the dancers, "Even though tonight is the last night, I hope everyone can be as serious as usual." In fact, usually the last show of the concert everyone would act especially crazy, but he specifically asked everyone not to do so that night, because the night had reached the moment of sealing the microphone, and a serious atmosphere was needed, and it was proper for him to ask everyone not to be too excited].
Dancing without movement
Monica, Mindless Sleep, Side ....... There was a time when young people (especially men) not knowing how to do a few of these dances was tantamount to being OUT OF DATE. that's not the same as it was in the post-revival Leslie Cheung era. Because art cannot be imitated. Farewell to the pop singer's career Zhang Guorong, performance becomes more arbitrary.
[He was in the previous concert, pay more attention to the dance action interpretation, there are a lot of gesture, dance steps, to comeback after he saw more superstar style, that is, do not have to dance neatly, dancer has their own movements, he himself is casual with. The way he moves his hands and feet gives people a very comfortable feeling. It is no longer popular for singers to dance neatly with dancers. But he already stated at the beginning of the 97 concert that he didn't need neat dance steps, and that his brother wanted to do something out of the box. He always stays on top of the trends].
[Every single movement and look in his eyes is not something that can just be learned. Singing, movement, eyes, expression, it takes all of them to work together properly for the best rendition, and it's far more difficult than doing a series of dance moves. Expression feels far more important than movement, it's something internal that can't be achieved with practice and training].
It's all art up and down the stage
Ju Yonglong only really started working with his brother at the '97 concert. He was happy to work with his brother on the performance. Chu said choreography is created out of thin air, and his brother had a lot of new ideas that inspired him.
The idea for "Red" was inspired by the movie "Spring Breakers", but Chu wanted to do the dance in a different way for the concert. Some of the steps were also his ideas, such as the "leg hook" moves. He thinks the effect of these moves is very beautiful. "At that time, we did not deliberately arrange male and female roles, it was a gender-neutral performance, it was a purely stumptown performance, a wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee wee. Nightmare Sheath Charming Thinking? What's the reason for this? What are the reasons for stumbling into the store? What is the name of Tokyo? What is the best way to get the most out of your home? The first thing you need to do is to get your hands on a new one, and you'll be able to do that.
97 and enthusiasm for two concerts, "red" has become an integral part of the song, it can be seen that the "red" song has a high degree of plasticity. Zhu Yonglong especially likes this song.
[The performance of "Red" focuses on atmosphere and feeling. Especially in the musical arrangement, although it is a slow song, but every rhythm is very strong. The drums at the beginning can already be heart-pounding, and when paired with the bright and dim lights, it can evoke a tense mood. Everyone was already screaming like crazy before my brother even moved].
Ju Yonglong, who has already set foot on stage at the age of 8, has plenty of experience in dance performances, but when it comes to his brother's performances, he shows heartfelt appreciation.
[His eyes are awesome, and if you don't have the experience, you simply can't wield them. On stage, when people look at each other, their eyes are forcing each other. I'm a performer myself, and I'm competitive on stage, so when I perform with him, everyone is fighting. If one is not able to fight him on stage, he doesn't need you on stage at all].
[I think he is already artistic in his usual life. The furniture in his home is arranged in a very meticulous way, and you can tell his taste from a small item, very personal and opinionated].
Subduing demeanor
Although his brother is very personal, he is very receptive to opinions as far as Zhu Yonglong's many experiences of working with him are concerned.
[He's a fast thinker, and he understands good advice right away, so he doesn't have to explain it to him. He'll give you his opinion, but on the other hand, he'll let you do what you want without worrying about anything, so you'll feel a sense of trust.]
In his private interactions, Chu feels that his brother is very easy-going and friendly, but admits that he gets nervous when talking to him.
[I don't know how to explain this feeling of "timidity". Over the years, I've worked with a lot of divas and queens, and very few of them make me feel this way, except for him and Mui. I can be very friendly with Alan and Hok Yau, but it's different with him, even though he's very kind to me, I feel very distant. Maybe this feeling comes from brother's own noble cultivation and his superstar's aura].
